To those that knew it was my Mom's 90th birthday celebration this weekend...you'd expect I would write all about that.. I will, just not today.

It is a knitting blog..I keep telling myself this because I could easily turn it into a travel blog given the opportunity.

BUT..BUT...since I rarely post stuff I knit..because it just never stays here long..I tend to wrap and send it away as soon as it's off the needles..hoping I may catch a glimpse of it later being worn and can snap a pix..

After seeing Elisabeth at NOSO in September sporting such a lovely wrap and finding that it was indeed of her own making..I got busy and tracked her down and ordered a few skeins of her prettier than pretty yarn...I'm impressed with cotton..it's just who I am..old hippies never die..they just get more weird or have more fun, whichever comes first...

I wanted to finish a shawl using her fiber before Sedalia..and I did..using a pattern that Ann McCauley shared with our Ravelry group...sad to say by the end of the day I was looking like Little Orphan Annie trying to keep my scarf on...because I was not about to tell anyone that I had lost my awesome shawl pin that Sonya had given me at Celtic..so I knotted up the scarf and it was about 50 ways from Sunday around my neck by the end of the day..however, it was still rich and beautiful due to it was made from Wolle's gorgeous cotton...This story has a great ending...when we(Marianne, Julie, Dana and I arrived back to our apartment), my shawl holder arrived back with us..Fortunately Marianne and Julie had rescued it from a bag that I had put it in for safe keeping during the hectic early morning putting the show together..

Part 2..I rarely order just 1 skein of anything..so when I ordered the skein for the shawl above, I also ordered a second...I decided after Sedalia and carefully checking Wolle's site to make a Saroyan using her yarn..I saw she had made one and it was lovely..so I began this adventure right after getting home and settling in...a slow knit..Several times I second guessed what I was doing and shouldn't I do it differently..but no..I did not...Do I regret it..No..there are folks with slender necks that don't like alot of drapey stuff flung all around them and this is going to a thin neck gal..so I think the size will work well.. I contemplated adding more leaves in the straight section..I was fine with the 6 on the increase and decrease but I sort of thought that it may need a bit more length..When I got to the 10 recommended leaves, my fingers said..enuff..

I'm showing this with The most gorgeous shawl pin that was gifted to me by the kind, generous and loving Margene...It's a bronze heart by the awesome Romi...For those of you that know and love Margene(like I do)...you will know the heart has a special significance ..I wear it with more love and gratitude than you can ever know..Thank you Margene for such a special gift and I promise I will 'always' know where this one is.

I think it looks really pretty and it will make a perfect little scarf for those days when you just want a little 'pick up'...or perhaps 'get picked up'. I measured the yarn I have left and there is enough to make another...and the colors will be all different.

But for now, I'm focusing on a project of love..I'd love to get rid of some of the scraps and stash around here..so I've started knitting panels 6"x48" and I'm going to either crochet or sew them together for a 'love blankie' for my special friend and husband Mike. We both love having our little blankies for those cooler afternoons and nights to wrap around our legs when we're sitting around..Being the wild and crazy man that he is..yep, the guy that wears pinata colored Red Heart Acrylic socks..is going to love this blanket..even without trying, I think I can make the blend rather tacky, which will just please him beyond words.

Gosh, I do have some time now..inhale/exhale..but no promises I will return to blogland.

It was a busy last several months but well worth every moment of time spent, every ounce of energy used and every unslept night of 'did I remember this, Call Dana on that, Did Dana ask me this or did I dream it'...but that's history now and a very good chapter it was.

Dana and I embarked on this life changing event 3 years ago as we decided with the help of friends we could save a local fiber festival that was going to be 'tossed to the dogs'..We rescued and were successful for 3 years, doubling the original vendor list as well as attendance. This year was exceptional in that we branched out a bit and had 2 well known authors/designers/knitters to join us and teach classes/sign books. We had Ann McCauley from Boulder, Co. to join us with her 2 books, trunk show and also she taught 3 different classes...as well, we had Barbara Hurd to join us from Charlottesville for a book signing..

Also on the slate we had a fantastic raffle that we offered a Drum Carder, Weaving Loom and a Spinning Wheel..3 folks left there very happy with those large items..Then we had our regular super duper raffle that grew by leaps and bounds this year..giving away lovely bags, yarn, books, pottery, etc...There was something for everyone..even me..well..actually Mike came early and bought raffle tickets and won a lovely skein of Rock Creek..which has found it's way to my stash bin.

If this doesn't capture your interest and you don't think Dana and I were excited yet..the best to come:...Marianne from Ok. and Julie from Maine joined us for this fun day. Many months ago we started talking about them coming and of course everything hinges on another..family, travel, economy etc..but putting all that aside..these 2 glorious ladies arrived on Thurs. for Marianne and very late Fri. morn for Julie(and that's another story)..I speak for myself only when I say I can't recall when I've ever had such fun..they were just as I had pictured they would be from the years of Rav. contact and email exchanges..if we had not been so tired, I am sure we would have closed all the bars in town down..(oh wait..we did on Sat.) The time went by much too quickly in that they traveled so far and we had so little time to actually visit..but to quote a famous lady..

'We made good time'..we laughed, we laughed some more..I giggled and snorted..and during most of this my camera was tucked away in my purse..but the memories are all tucked in my heart.

Thanks for making a most memorable weekend Marianne and Julie..Let's do it again!!!!

After all of this planning and exhausting action..Dana and I woke on Sunday morning and unanimously decided we were no longer going to organize this festival..it's been draining and we both have outside lives which are mostly consumed the entire 12 months for planning.

We feel we go out in style as we have been successful and left all our vendors on a pleasing note..

We have had the opportunity to work with the best vendors in this field..they're the most supportive and generous folks I've ever met..We will miss you greatly but it will be so nice to see you from the other side of the table in the upcoming festivals.

Dana and I are turning over all of the 'road maps' to another individual at this time and we know she will keep this festival alive, add new energy and everyone will continue to enjoy being a part of.

So..how's things in your neck of the woods..Mine just got much less busy!!

It's been one most terrific holiday but I'm ready for a 'quiet' night at home..
Hubby is making his own creation of Seafood Chowder..he concocts the tastiest stew that compares to any I've ever had in a reputable restaurant. He uses lots of fresh Va. Oysters, clams, crab and many times shrimp but tonight because of so many oysters he's omitting the shrimp...lots of good fresh herbs, celery, onions etc..can't share more or I'll have to shoot you.
I've had some time to reflect on the past year the last days and I think to summarize it the best..I'd say, it's been 'one of the best'...I've had a better than average healthy year..I'm so happy to finally have a grasp on the allergies and asthma..can't stop the aging process, so you just make the best of it and move along.
We had a most successful festival..The Sedalia Fiber Festival that brought many enthusiast together for a day of 'sticks and yarn'...and the pleasure of working with good friends to make this happen..as well as making so many new contacts that I look forward to seeing again this year.
I had the opportunity to travel to Portland for The Sock Summit and be among the 'high rollers' of sock knitting..rub elbows with those 'in the know' and participate in some super fun events and meet some special people that remain close to me.
I feel I made a bit of progress in my knitting skills..but boy, I've got leaps and bounds to go but look forward to meeting more goals as time goes on.
I had the chance to meet Jo Watson at SS, she is the coordinator for The UK Knit Camp..I've toyed with the idea of attending this in 2010..but I can't quite make the needed commitment for that early enough to be accepted and get into classes..so I suppose I am saying I won't be going for sure...and after new security standards that will be going into place..that could be a good thing..
There is another knitting event that I hope to be able to participate in..and hubby would also go with me..I really hope this works out but it won't be until Sept. 2010..It's a 6 day cruise with the last port being a visit to Lucy Neatby's Studio.
Tomorrow..I hope to begin a normal day and restart some knitting..I have not had needles in my hands for 2 days..time is 'a'wasting'~

This is the Shalom Cardigan that I made my Sister for Christmas..it really looks very pretty on her..but look at this pretty button..it's a Sonya@Studio 43 Original..

The reason for the neck shot of me...this is the lovely Baktus that Marianne made for me some months ago..although this isn't the first time I've worn..it was the first time the camera was handy..and the shawl pin..Mike made for me for Christmas..it's really very intricate if up closely but you'll just have to take my word for this, huh. I love this scarf..the colors, her handspun, her handknit..it's all so beautiful! I love it and Thank you Marianne.

For the lovely scarf I was wearing yesterday..I failed to give the credit to the wonderful knitter..this came to me from my friend Judy in Portland that I met during Sock Summit I feel so lucky to have so many talented friends..Judy has probably humiliated me into cables..because I wore this yesterday and had lots of compliments and..could you make me one?...It is so elegant and I love it..Thank you Judy!

Let it be said..I do love scarves and I love wearing them..So when Marianne gives me the heads up on a new pattern..I'm quick to check it out..

I did trek out today in the pouring rain to have lunch with Mom, Sister, John and Mike..We had such a good visit and a great meal...but it was nice to get home and sit and relax a bit..Tonight I'm going to enjoy the 'lights'..

On This Eve..Christmas Blessings to You All~

I feel so blessed at this moment and just had to share a few photos..We went to MIL's..for a midday family gathering so that we could gift exchange with Candice and Family..We have a most difficult time it seems getting together for just ordinary visits but it really warms my heart when we are actually able to pull it off and get all in one place.

The perfect plan was going to happen at our house today for lunch..I was going to cook the mega meal for everyone and we'd do our visit and exchange here...but after we were covered with over a foot of snow at the end of last week..and we live off the main road..our driveway is still quite tricky even for the surefooted..and surely not for MIL who is still tiptoeing from her fall and break in Sept..so..plan B was put into action.. They would come to Grannys(MIL's) and we'd meet, visit..and then they were taking Granny out for lunch..of course we were invited also but we aren't in to eating an early lunch..so we picked up Chinese carryout and moved along.

I can hardly believe how much Cameron the Grandson has grown in the last months..he's 15 and is just so dashingly handsome...not too mention he's 6'2" and has the most gorgeous reddish brown reallllllllllly curly hair..he has the most awesome curls..He had curly hair as a toddler and my all time favorite photo of him was when he was about 2 and his head was a 'mop' of loose curls...he went through years of buzz cuts and all those other cool spikey gelled up styles but he's now wearing it au natural..and it is just too darn handsome! Ashley is just as cute as a button..all petite and blond...and so into still believing in Santa..so she was really on her best behavior today..but I think that's fairly normal for her...they really are 2 wonderful children..and I'm so proud to be called their Mamaw. It's not always smooth going..being a step..is not an easy feat..especially when there's still a bitter ex in the pix..you'd think after 30+ years...she'd just get over it..but instead, she chooses to try to keep discontentment and does a really great job of it.

I'm now home with a turkey breast in the oven and as soon as it beeps that it's done..I'm going to make a chocolate truffle pie...We're supposed to go to my Moms tomorrow but..seems the weather guy may have other plans...there's an icy wintry mix in the forecast that could prohibit travel tomorrow..

Yesterday about mid afternoon Mike said to me...'be careful of what you wish for'..I always wish for at least a foot of snow..This time I got my wish! Actually, I think we have more than a foot but so that it's not totally fabricated..I'll stick with 12"..

It was a bit tricky this morning at 6:30 when walking the pup..seems he just could not find 'his place'..I even cleaned a spot down to the grass and invited him over, but it just didn't smell right.

Walking was very difficult..to say the least. We live a half mile off the main highway and our street is not state maintained..soooo Nik and I made the first tracks..it was absolutely breath taking to walk in the virgin snow..and be snowed on while walking. I did not take the camera because I was afraid if I fell..I'd break the camera..leg,hip or arm..yes..camera-no..It was so deep it was even rough on Nik to make a track..his belly was dragging..and he's a rather large guy..he now weighs 92 lbs..after losing 8 since his last vet visit and reprimand for being a bit..over..

I had to choose each step carefully..and believe me when I say I've never had this good of a quad workout from the gym...I was dressed in ample clothing to stay warm in a blizzard but unfortunately my boots were not quite tall enough....after trying to figure out how I was going to make this trek...I remembered Mike had this awesome pair of insulated/waterproof and tall hunting boots from when he used to bird hunt...so I put on thick socks and these boots which are about 12" tall not counting all the heel etc..and they must weigh at least 5 lbs each....they were sufficient most of the way ..until we were almost back within sight of the house..and Nik decided to go into a field..as I trudged for him..it went at least 3" over the tops of the boots..so I'm saying..yep..we must have about 15" here. Our back door is drifted up from where the wind blew earlier last night and we can' t get out the kitchen door..but there are other exits that are fine..and the snow continues..actually heavier now than earlier. I'm a happy girl..

I came back from walking a bit damp and changed into some warm clean clothes and proceeded to make some dark choco. fudge..and I just finished some sausage balls. I finished my applesauce cakes a few days ago and fortunately delivered all of them to friends and neighbors on Thurs. and Fri..They must have been fairly good this year..one request for the recipe and one early call from a friend this morning that had some for breakfast..The rest of the day..I'm going to knit, sip tea and relax...and once the snow stops..I may clean my car off but I have NO plans to go any place for a day or so..this is my kind of weather..a special Christmas gift!

Wishing everyone a super great Thanksgiving!
I don't do specific grateful lists because I am extremely grateful for everything and everyone in my life.
I look forward to spending tomorrow with family at my home..yep, they will endure my cooking one more time. I guess it's easier to eat my less perfect meal and not complain than it is to have to do it yourself..ha ha Actually, I don't do too bad in the kitchen..and I don't anticipate any complaints.
I did bake 5 cakes over the weekend as part of my annual cake gifting and have delivered those to some of my neighbors and older friends..and today I made a pumpkin cheesecake for home as well as an applesauce cake..tomorrow we will work on 'Mr. Bird'
Have a relaxed and safe day!!

A Simply Abundant Day

I got this wonderful invitation from my friend Claudette to come to her house today to visit, knit and have lunch. Of course, just the invitation to her home was enough..so I offered to buy her lunch but she said..no, we'd go to this little 'bistro' in town..Claudette isn't known to tell a fib so of course I knew we were going to do just that..however the bistro was in her very own dining room and I can't imagine there's one in her town that could serve up the delicious Caesar Salad she whipped up..it was the yummiest I've ever eaten..
Then she took me on a little side trip to The Glen Maury Park to show me the actual 'Buena Vista'(Good View)...then we took a most stimulating walk down the flood walk...so that we could go home and enjoy her awesome blueberry dessert served with ice cream..yep..I'm Abundantly full and happy..nothing simple about those pleasures.

It was a delightful visit but the time just flew by and it was time for me to head back over the mountain home before dark..which happens promptly about 5 p.m.

Thanks Claudette for a taste of Simple Abundance...I listened to the CD all the way back across the 'big hill'..very soothing for the soul..
And in case I didn't tell you how much I appreciate your friendship and love you..I do VERY MUCH!!

Sorry this photo isn't turned properly but it just wasn't and I didn't take the time to do it after the upload..but you 'get the picture..huh'..The pattern is The Baktus, using 2 skeins of Filatura DiCrosa, Maxine Print..The middle is The Harlot Scarf Pattern, using Noro Kochoran and the Sweater is using The Shalom Cardigan Pattern and I used Cascade Eco Wool..it took much less than a skein to make this..to fit a 34ish bust...that's all folks..although there are several more scarves in the making and many ideas in the mind.

I promise a full report soon...I know I've been quiet..I've been busy and away..but I've also accomplished a bit of knitting..

The day after Labor Day..I got serious on my decision to curb my eating aka lose some poundage..because I had the big 40 High School Class Reunion coming up in Oct...so I figured I could squeeze off a few inches and be happier with how I look...I gave up my beloved beer, chocolate and soft drinks...I started drinking only hot tea and water and eating more sensibly...

I'm so pleased to say this was easy...until the week before my reunion and I went to Moms..and there were those ...Little Debbies...I did resist until after the reunion and then I was more conscious as I 'wolfed' them down. I was successful in dropping a few inches and pounds.. and had a great time at my reunion. It was the first time I had gone without Mike but because of being across town and trying to coordinate having 2 cars, etc..he was most happy to not be pressured into going..and I had a more relaxed time not worrying that he was bored..so a win-win!

Plus it was nice to get some hugs from some folks I'd not seen in a few years.

Mom and I had a great 2 week visit..we did some little something most days..even if it was as simple as coming to my house to visit..but we also did some 'firsts'...We had a court appearance to make over a land dispute that's been going on MUCH too long..and we went for manicures..Mom said she had never been to court(which is a good thing, I guess)..and she had never had a manicure...I think she enjoyed the simple pleasure of the manicure and may become a regular..that may be a little treat she and I share often.

I did accomplish 'some' knitting while there..but I wasn't able to keep up with the Sock Kal..I got swamped and didn't get past the heel..but that's ok..because they're both ready to do the foot..and that's clear sailing. I worked on a scarf I had on the needles for a while..it's still on the needles..it's dark yarn and with my aging eyes..dark isn't always easy to see..but I did finish a lovely Baktus..being the 3rd one..and I will post a photo later..I also finished a Harlot scarf, using Noro Kochoran..and she's quite lovely...AND..then...on Tues. night as I was reading my favorite blogs..I dropped by Susan's blog and saw her 14th sweater for 2009..it was a cute little Cardi..called Shalom Cardigan....say no more, I had the yarn in my stash(Eco Wool)..and all I needed to do was wind it..without much ado on Wed...I did this and cast on for this lovely little piece..She's coming along beautifully..actually if all goes well, she will be ready to come off the needles within a day or so....I've been obsessively knitting on this and am on row 70..and loving how cute it knits up...now you're thinking..I keep saying 'little' ..how can this be for me..well, it's not...I decided after first glance it would be such a cute Christmas gift for my Sister..she's much less chesty than I am..and can get by wearing those type things..but if this goes well..I intend to focus on another for me in the near future..the yarn has been stashed for some time..as well as the simple pattern..it's all about working up the courage to tackle it again...Linda and I are planning to do a 'little' Sweater Kal so that we can cheer each other on.

MIL is home..the Rehab is a much happier place..as are all the nurses and physical therapist..I do know they all were granted a special permit to their own space in heaven after this ordeal.

I hear a UFO calling my name..and if they're going to be under Christmas trees for this year..I better get busy.

After careful consideration, I decided that having approximately 15 UFO's..that it would be ok..to add another, therefore..I joined Through The Loops Kal..The first clue went out yesterday which was the cuff..it was fun and not so challenging and I'm sure Kirsten will save the best for last.

The yarn is Schaffer Heather which was gifted me for my birthday from my Sister of The Heart, Marianne..doesn't she have fantastic taste?..It was a hard decision to make on which yarn, but after seeing she was using Schaffer..I decided to walk the line. I think I will go ahead prior to next Thurs. when she releases clue 2 and cast on el otro sock so that I will be ahead of the game.

Lots of knitting, lots of unattended knitting..I go to bed at night thinking there will be a knitting fairy that will come and finish my many unfinished items..they will get their day..I'm just being very wishy washy right now and doing something that pleases me..

I don't blog often but my previous blog alluded to problems on the home front..The Thurs. before Labor Day..ugly late at night, the phone rang and it was MIL's neighbor..of course that alerted me there was a problem..seems Mil was watching the Steelers play football(she's quite a sports fan)..and she got up and her foot was asleep..she fell forward on her face/belly..breaking her right ankle and banging up her left one badly..it was an action packed night..arriving at our local ER at 11:30 p.m. and the walls were lined with folks waiting for attention..it was several hours before she had more than x-rays done..then after those x-rays were read by someone with skill enough to validate it was broken..they realized that it was so badly that if they transported her at this time to the nearby Orthopaedic hospital they were going to have to stabilize her ankle/leg because of how the break was..it was lying over a blood vessel and the fear being if the transport vehicle should hit a bump in the road..it could cause serious problems..so after finally arriving at this...they determined they would have to reposition her leg/ankle first..it's 4 a.m. now..and suddenly we're seeing an emergency status..prior too..it was very ho hum...we'll get there..we have other patients..we have 'EMERGENCIES'..yep, that's what they said..they had emergencies..and I'm like no##$#%...this is ER..shouldn't there be a few to make this place legal? So..this procedure was done after they were able to get an Anesthesiologist to get out of bed to come in and make her sleepy..soooo she was finally transported to Lynchburg Hospital at 6 a.m..knowing surgery would be forthcoming but not sure when..I was in no condition to drive the half hour to the hospital after being up all night..so we came home and took half hour naps and showers and then I headed over..to find that the surgery would be at 5-6 pm..I slept a while in her room..which was most luxurious..and she assured me it was a non emergency surgery and to come home and rest..so after I gained my senses..I left her there...She was there from Fri. morning until Tues..and then she was transported to Oakwood Hell..better known as Oakwood Manor..it's a nursing home that also offers rehab..the rehab/physical therapists are wonderful..that's all I'll say!! She is still there and is due to go back to see the Dr. on Oct. 13 and maybe at that time she will be able to put weight on the foot..until, she refuses to do much Pt..she's convinced it's not in her best interest...but I will give her credit..she is giving the staff a daily dose of hell!!..She is one feisty lady!!

On Saturday we had a most awesome time at NOSO..Dana has already written and photographed so I won't go there..but it was great!..I love seeing that many knitters in one room..and most of them are SO friendly! We did a bit of politicking for Sedalia and picked up at least 1 new vendor..and we have an author on the burner..so..it's shaping up already..For those that think we wake up on the day of and it's magically all done...Dana and her staff work and confer year round.

A few other less pleasant things..I've had eye issues for many years..and I see the Glaucoma Specialist every 6 months and endure that horrible visual field test..seems my pressures are too low in my left eye and there may have to be some future surgery. I've had trabeculectomies on both and the right eye continues to respond well to the bleb..the left has been a bit wonky..but bottom line, my vision was getting worse..I was finding I had to wear my 'cheaters' all of the time..which was leaving my eyes very tired, headaches etc..so I made an appt. with my local Optometrist a few weeks ago..and after an excellent exam..he calmly told me..that it would have to be bifocals..not transitions..bifocals..I wanted to cry..but I really wanted to see too..so I opted to pull up my big girl panties and get those 'guys'..I'm still adjusting and it's been a week but it's amazing at how well I can see..seems the specialist doesn't spend much time on the actual examination and I probably should have had these a few years ago..but..I have them now..

Also..another first..hangs head in shame...I was skipping church a few weeks ago..and in lieu of was going to go visit some shut in friends/relatives etc..I was cruising out to Mom's first and I will not deny..I was speeding but I truly do not think I was SPEEDING..I saw him as I began down the hill and let off the gas and immediately pulled over...He was most kind but he did write me up..He said he clocked me doing 68 in a 45....I don't really think I was going that fast..I'd admit to maybe 60..yes bad enough but 68..I've gone back and tried to do 68 there and it's a tough spot to make that curve at 68....oh well..I'm now $176 less yarn money..and The Bedford County Sheriffis office is a bit richer to flaunt their new equipment etc.

Off to do some relaxation and knitting..

Today marks one year since the death of my Brother..
We say our final good-byes and go on with life..with the hole it leaves in your heart.
The hole gets smaller as the days go by because of the memories we've stored in the previous years. Not too say that as you go about your daily errands etc..you don't have flashbacks..
I often drive by a little favorite spot of his and look over to the deck..and at times I toot my horn, because he was almost always sitting there at certain times of the day enjoying a cup of coffee and a cigarette...sometimes I catch a glimpse of him 'still' there..memories...
Don't be sad for me today..hug your loved ones and let them know you care!

Dana came by on Thurs. before my birthday bearing these awesome gifts..She had been teasing me for a few weeks how she could not wait for my birthday and each time..it got more intense..and knowing Dana's talents, I knew she was up to something...but look at this..can you believe how generous and good this woman is? Plus..several months ago..she gave me the greatest sock book..Socks A La Carte..and said..this is your birthday present..I was ecstatic..then she comes at my birthday with a whole other BOX FULL!

To wind this gorgeous yarn...there's a Mahogany Nostepinne(I'm working on learning this)..it's such a lovely piece of work!

The Chocolate on The Brain..Notecards..with recipes on the back..how clever is this..unless of course, there were taste strips of each dessert?..OH, there is no pix..but rest assured it was in the box..but it melted in my mouth..a wonderful Godiva Dark Chocolate Bar..Dana loves to help me with my diet..hehe!!

And Tah Dah..Meet Henrietta! Is she not the most Gorgeous Chick you've ever seen?..Look at that gal!..Dana did this all by her lonesome..Henrietta now resides by my mantle..and seems to be quite happy..and Mike who loves chickens is in love with her..he has to show her off immediately when guests come in.

Plus to keep my noggin warm this winter..one of Dana's lovely hand knit Berets..I've admired the many she has made for her relatives..all the ones she made for the Afghan project that I took to Sock Summit..and NOW..I have my very own..I will be styling this winter.

Dana..in case I ever fail to tell you..I love you dearly..you're a great friend and you spoil me way too much..but I love it!

A little slow

It's been a bit slow around here..I realize I still owe you 1 more day of Sock Summit and I will bore you with that another day.

I've had a really tough time regaining my knitting mojo since the return, seems the entire Mojo hopped the plane in SLC..not just the little Sock Guy that I was dropping off to Margene..so if you see him/her/IT..send it my way..I have lots of 'started' items..and have just totally walked away from them to do this...This is the first of a pair, I hope..using the yarn I purchased from Pigeonroof Studios..I tried really hard to knit with some acrylic..because I have too..for this charity project, but I made a new knit rule..NNAOS(no knitting acrylic on Sunday) therefore I have 2 projects barely started and sitting on the sidelines patiently waiting their turn..

This is just a plain vanilla..easy peasy pattern..but the yarn is pretty fantastic to knit with. I think that 10% Cashmere makes it 'sweet' on the hands.

Sooo, you want to know what's in the bag?..I actually was going to show you this yesterday but blogger was a booger..and we could not come to terms, therefore I aborted the post.

I purchased the little Sushi Wrister from Wendy Sloneker you can find Wendy here:

friendywendy@yahoo.com, not only does she have awesome bags, she had pretty buttons and other little sweet things that we knitters like..but you know what she had that really impressed me...she had the most incredible personality..she lit the room and she was SOOO very gracious that I'd stopped by and purchased from her. This is what Sushi is carrying at the moment:

In case you can't see this yarn well, I will post a pix of the skein before winding..but this hails from Pigeonroof Studios and it's 80/10/10 superwash Merino, Cashmere and Nylon..it's very kind to the hands while knitting and I've made awesome progress since the first pix..I'm on the heel decreases..so a sock should be born in a few days. Here's Ribbon Dance before winding her.

The next bag was the nice project bag given by The Ravelry Team..a great little bag..with wonderful treasures inside...A skein of Berroco Wool yarn, a Namaste shopping bag and other materials..Thank you Ravelry...You treated us so well!! This was my brush with fame..

What a terrific, fun group of folks they are!!

My Trader Joe shopping bag was delivered to me by Judy..filled with goodies from Oregon..A most gorgeous pottery mug from a local potter, a beautiful coffee table book on Oregon(which makes you want to go right back), a lovely calendar for 2010 with all the highlights that make you want to go back worse..and some of her delicious homemade Almost Seedless Raspberry Jelly!!

So..you see..."When one bag closes, Another bag opens"..and can a gal ever have TOO many bags..I think NOT.

It seemed like the 4th of July!..I had the most fun I've had in eons..I guess my free spirited, independence came alive.

I had a early class on Sat. morning with Carson Demers..only 1 hour and it was called KnitteRx..I guess we're all guilty of sitting so that we can finish..JUST 1 more row..He suggested ways of sitting, supporting our butt, and most importantly ..no too sit for too long..get up and stand, walk, move around and knit..most enjoyable.I caught the rail as soon as the class was over and headed out..no destination in mind other than the return to The Red Lion in time for The Ravelry Meet Up at 7..

My first stop was The Saturday Market which was high on my list of want to do's but was afraid I'd not have the time..I milled around at the market area for a few hours, bought just a few cute items, grabbed a spring roll and beer and visited with folks I'd never seen before in my life, but..live a little, right? After I had seen all of the market, I headed to the waterfront. Do I look like an out of towner? I felt like a Portlander...friendly and all~ I walked, and walked and walked some more and finally I found what I was sort of looking for:

I had seen this in passing while out with Judy on Thurs. and she had told me how good it was..I love oysters..any way you want to toss them at me...so I went in and sat for a bit, grabbed a little something to refresh me once again and then I ordered this scrumptious half order of oysters on half shell, she fixed me a variety sampler..my lips are still drooling as I remember

eating them, savoring every bite and wishing Mike were here to enjoy with me..he too loves oysters.

I was finally all done and ready to seek more adventure and the 'Oyster Gal'..recommended that I go to The Chinese Gardens..that was really on my agenda also but I didn't realize I'd be so close to it at this time. I left the restaurant and headed towards the gardens...I soon saw a line..and thought oh geesh...I hate lines and I will NOT stand in line to pay to go see this..as I got closer and yes..I did step into the line for a second...to realize I was in line for VooDoo Donuts..It was tempting to stay in this line and forget the gardens..because this was about to rank on my list too..even though I'm not a donut person..I understand you don't have to be to appreciate VooDoo's...I figured since I had been to Cupcake Johns..I didn't need 2 treats of this sort on the trip.

The Gardens were absolutely beautiful!..I did run through quickly but I still enjoyed their beauty thoroughly. I did take LOTS of photos here but I'll just leave one for your viewing pleasure...ok? I would also recommend this as a nice stop if you had the time in your schedule.

After this I decided to just do more marathon walking and see where I ended up..I had a map but I didn't consult it until I was pretty sure I didn't have a clue where I was..but I quickly found a Starbucks, a kind gentleman and a street sign...all of which helped me find my way back to the trolley and then the rail. There is a story with this sign..but it's private and I won't share..But couldn't we all use a little bit of LOVE JOY..in our lives?...I loved witnessing this sign personally..more than once~

I headed back via the trolley to the rail and got dressed for The Ravelry Meet Up..

I think I will cover that separately..just because I've about overloaded you with a ton of stuff today.

How Did I FORGET?

Oh gosh..I forgot to mention ONE of the most important events of Thurs..and that was the opening of The Marketplace at 4:30. This was sort of the 'climax' of the day..much anticipation of the registered students to see what was behind those great big closed doors..it was open for 2 hours only..and just for US! I had been in earlier in the day because I was helping a vendor so I had a feel for where some booths I wanted to 'hit' were located..I guess you could say I wasn't alone in wanting to hit some special booths..because I waited in line to pay for about 30 minutes at Blue Moon...but from what I've heard that is 'nada' compared to the lines in MD. and NY. at the Fiber shows. I was greatly pleased with my purchases first day..but I did go to Blue Moon once again before the final day of SS..and made another purchase of a 'few' skeins...I was thinking of all the money I saved on shipping(isn't that valid)?

So...let's move on to Friday.

I did not have any classes on Fri..there weren't any that screamed at me, but we did have the Guinness World Record Attempt at 11:30, so we hung around the market and I helped John again by handing out coupons until 11:30 and after the attempt...Sallee, Judy and I took off for downtown..in search of this:

Sallee and I had both seen this mentioned on the SS Blog of Food Carts you should try..they did NOT lie..I had a perfectly awesome Salmon Burger and fries...From there we went in active pursuit of The Button Emporium..that was almost as much fun as a candy store..too bad they don't offer chocolate buttons or I'd have been in big trouble. The store is run by 2 of the most delightful ladies you'd ever meet..I found some gorgeous buttons for some 'gifties'..because I frankly do not sew..and haven't yet knit anything requiring buttons..Maybe I'll start using buttons on my dishcloths, for a new twist..If you ever get to Portland...this is a must stop..I was forewarned by a friend that had been several years ago..and she highly recommended this as a YES! After the BE, we walked a short distance to Josephine's, a fabric shop..some lovely fabric but again..I don't sew, but Sallee did score a few yds...and then to the famous Powell's...I'm sure in another life I may enjoy this..or just another time, but it was crowded and actually when I can order online..I don't need crowds, but it was a 'must do' of Portland. We headed back to the hotel and then went up to the 'bar' for some liquid refreshment and met up with more Ravelers.. had dinner and neither of us were giddy about the Sock Hop and had not attempted to get tickets..so it was an early night~

Seems that Blogger wanted to be a 'sogger' for me yesterday..I had it all ready and got some silly error and failed to save..bleh..

I don't want to bore you with blow by blow..so off we go..

The flights were as flights tend to be..one on time, one late etc...as a rule I don't fly Delta because I can never remember a time that there wasn't a delay..well, they upheld their reputation for me. We left L'burg precisely on time and I was very impressed with flying from their small airport..when we arrived in Atlanta, our flight was boarding..so I was giddy..didn't last for long..lol

Once we got on the plane there was an issue with trying to find seats for some stand-by's..being a pilots wife and 2 boys.., then it seems they were not satisfied with the bathroom clean up from the former flight..so they had to call the cleaning crew back on..which gained a round of applause and hopes of taking flight soon...since our connection time in SLC was short..but we sat on the runway a bit longer before we actually took flight..meaning we arrived in Salt Lake City about 5 minutes before we were to depart..then another 10 min. it seemed before we were off the plane....to rush in and try to find our gate..to be told..it had been moved and we would be boarding the same plane we had arrived on...So at least sweating the big bullets of missing our flight were over..We arrived in Portland about 11:30 and found the Sock Summit Shuttle and arrived at The Red Lion at almost midnight..which is 3a.m. for me..yep, I was tired pup!..Of course there's a bit of unpacking to prepare for an early day ..because we were much too late to get registered. After only a few hours sleep, we were up to get started for the first day of Sock Summit...We had breakfast at the hotel cafe which was really decent..and there were many celebrity faces around the lobby..Lucy Neatby, Anna Zilboorg, Judith McCuin..and as the days went on..there were more..they will enter later

Registration was a breeze, they were SO prepared for us..then it was just milling around among hundreds of other anxious knitters..meeting many faces that you had only seen names of..Seeing The Yarn Harlot whisk around like the energizer bunny, Tina rushing around in total control and all the rest of the STR team..again, they were amazingly ready for whatever would happen.

My first class began at 10 a.m. with Judy Becker..Judy's Magic Loop..she's a terrific teacher, funny and very entertaining. I can't say I grasped the entire concept but perhaps with time I will..or maybe I won't..I've lived this long without, so it will be ok..huh?

I had volunteered to help Angela and John of Serendipitous Ewe with their set up or whatever they needed me for whenever I had available time..so after this class, I helped John for a while putting up shelves, fondling yarn(ooops..I meant tagging) and took the time to walk around and get a feel for the marketplace..yep, it was overwhelming!..There was so much yarn and so little time!!!!

When all this first began I had gotten a pm one day from a lady in Portland and we continued to be in contact until the Summit..and had made plans to meet, run about etc..After helping John, Judy Solanki my new Portland friend and I took off for lunch, a car tour of the city and a trip to Trader Joe's for room supplies..She was just the most pleasant, warm and dear person one would want to meet...I treasure the time we were able to spend together and so happy to have a friend in Portland.

Here's JUDY!!..seems to be a popular name so far, eh?

Then it was time for The Opening Reception which I felt was so heartwarming...to hear all the trials and tribulations they had encountered to bring this great event to Portland.

I also had the privilege of meeting Jo Watson of British Yarns, She was there to promote the 2010 Knitting Camp to be held in Scotland..during the reception she was interviewed by a reporter for The Oregon News...there's a link for this..but I can't find it at the moment, but they did a nice story on The Summit and Jo was mentioned as well as Judy. Judy had invited Jo to stay with her during SS. Jo was also interviewed by Vogue Knitting while there..quite the little celebrity Jo..Cheers..again!!!

I was off to bed quite early and slept like a baby..for yet another early day..Friday!

SS Meltdown

Even though I'm home, I haven't reconnected with the time..

This is going to be short..and sweet..just going to tease you a bit..

It was fabulous, met some totally awesome people..well worth the money and time..just wish I'd had a few extra days to have really done all the Portlander stuff..

I will share more with you and hopefully show you much of all I purchased..I may not be able to disclose every little item..YET..

This was too funny...because Judy and I had been out and about for the afternoon and we parked in front of a Tattoo Parlor..discussion on Tatts..etc..as we walked to Cupcake Jones..a must if you are in Portland.

The Marketplace opened that evening and Lantern Moon had these cute little Tatts. they were giving away..Mine is actually still legible.

Enough of my wild side..More tomorrow..all the photos are loaded..it's a matter of sharing.

Hey Gals and Guys,

It's been a while..actually judging by the photo, I know exactly how long..too long.

I am sure I mentioned out here in blogland that I was thinking about or going to Sock Summit in August..well, as it turns out, I am definitely going. As I was reading various threads of a very busy and controversial blog I found one from a shop in Oregon, Dublin Bay that collects for Afghans for Afghans and they made the suggestion that instead of an afghan, why not socks since we were coming to a sock conference..I quickly responded and said..although I am not a great sockster, I will make at least 1 pair and bring for your box. A few days later I was knitting along on a gorgeous pair of socks for moi and I picked up an article that alluded to the Children from Afghanistan and their lack of clothing..that socks are their foot cover..they don't or rarely have shoes..that's why it's so important to make them of wool..there was something in that article that hurt me so deeply..that I put my socks aside and said to myself..damn girl..you've got socks, you've got shoes..you've got lots of both..can't you do more than 1 measly pair?..SO I challenged myself to do 10 pair..I'd been emailing and had developed a wonderful chat relationship with a lady in Oregon and a Sock Summitress..so she joined me in my quest..however she did me one better..she did 10 and felt so good about it, she did 2 more pair for a dozen..way to go Dear Judy!

She now has me questioning my good intentions and if I can muster enough steam to do 2 more pair I will but..stick me with a fork..I've DONE 10 pair..and I'm going to show them to you..right here..bored or not..

I give thanks to Marianne for sharing this pattern with me a few years back and I had used it periodically, now I have it memorized..so there is no excuse to not keep a little box of these going at all times.

Also mentioning this to my Knit Group..and Dana steps up to the plate and makes 10 Gorgeous Baby hats for me to take also..how good is she? I think she's right up there with the angels..I'm so blessed to call her a dear friend! Plus she shared extra wools she had so she is also a part of these socks...we're not sock sisters for nuthing@!!

Ok..for Pix 1..and these are not in the order they were made:

Ok..Not going to bore you with all 10 individual pair..I'm not on my computer and Moth's is weirding out on me..or perhaps it's my skillz.

Then..a few weeks ago..maybe over a month, I started getting this new car itch..don't you hate that? I tried every ointment known to man to try and get rid of but I was hit hard.. I started at the dealership where I'd bought my previous car..Firstly there was nothing wrong with my car..it was a 2003 Black Mercedes C240 4matic..meaning it was AWD..it had under 44,000 miles..The only issue we were having was...Mike has had 3 knee surgeries, I'm tall and with Mom's situation a low car isn't her best friend, so I thought I'd buy a small SUV which would be higher and easier..so I found online that Mercedes had just that exact thing..being made for 2010 but on the market now..so I made an appt, went over and drove, loved it, brought it home for the night..thinking oh yes, this is going to work..they kept hedging on what they would allow me..first, they said they would give me...the bottom price allowed for trade on this car..I'm like..oh yeah..you think..my car is a 'cherry'..it has new tires..it's never been wrecked, never had a smoker inside..never had this/that etc..so I said..I think NOT..so then they called in the 'master of manipulations in car dealers'..It was instant dislike..when he called Mike by name as if he'd known him 4ever and wanted to know how he was doing..and how my Mom was doing..etc..hoping he would build my confidence in him as a car sales person..so he started shuffling more numbers and started with this..well, if we did this..and you did that..we could do this..I said NO..I've told YOU..I will give you $X for your car and my car..this is it..oh we can't do that..I said..well..we surely can't..You won't sit here and make me such a ludicrous offer and expect me to drive your car away..it says nothing that I've bought 3 new cars here in the last 15 years and always been able to deal, it seems to me that you no longer care to do business..so I got up shook hands and walked away...got in my little black mercedes and came home...I figured they would call back..you know, they always do..well after 2 weeks they had not, so I emailed the initial guy I had dealt with and told him I very much liked that car and I was still willing to give them the amount I had offered them..but that it appeared to me that their interest didn't lie in selling cars at this time...and that I was sure I would find a car that would serve me well and that Mercedes did not build the only SUV on the road...he wrote back and wished me well in my purchase..lol

I had been doing lots of online research during all this time and had almost 99% decided I was going to go with Honda..I liked the reviews, I had checked out the CRV's and knew that was about the size I'd like..so I made an appt to go check those out..It was a most positive experience..they did not have a car I wanted on the lot..and were not pushy in getting one..I actually thought, maybe I'll just wait and get a 2010..but as I said..the bug was nibbling away..so a few days later, my salesperson calls and says I have one in the pkg. you want but not your color if you'd like to drive..well, life was really busy and I didn't get over to do it..about 5 or so days later I called and said I was coming..he said, well we sold that one but..we have 3 that just came in this morning on a truck and we have a beige..I told him I'd be there in half hour..they had to put a sticker on it so I could test drive and go over it..so when I tested it, I literally drove it with the plastic still on the seats etc...I drove it, I loved it..esp. the color..it's so pretty!..but mostly the guy I worked with was just a Gem..no pressure, no BS..just business and very good business..I went to test drive..I drove it home..I love the car..it is actually my favorite vehicle that Ive owned including 2 BMW's and a Mercedes..this is my favorite!..It is just the perfect height for Mike and Mom..and I love 'being high' when I drive!...Here she is..Berroco Beige Hazel!

Cookie Please

There will be more to follow...but please enjoy this as much as I did.

This KID was part of The Sedalia Spring Fiber Festival on Sat..I was scoping out the vendors just prior to the 10 a.m. opening and saw this little guy and thought he was in distress..then realized..he was just being a 'Kid'..he wanted another cookie.

The festival was most successful despite the fact we had been having torrential rains throughout the week...the rains held off until after 9 p.m. that evening and the weather was delightful.

The attendance was good, the vendors were excellent..their fiber was awesome..it was a perfect day!

There were many highlights..meeting new folks that we had contacted through Ravelry etc..but one special highlight was meeting a special lady I had been corresponding with via Ravelry and she had been such a positive influence over the last 9+ months while dealing with the ups and downs of having to shift roles and going from wife to caregiver for my Mother...that lady is Claudette or her Ravelry name is Holiday..what a beautiful lady she is...I was so surprised when I walked off the stage and was greeted by her..We didn't have a lot of time to visit but it was so special to meet she and her daughter..Thanks Claudette for coming and sharing our special day...and thanks to everyone that is on Ravelry that came to shop, volunteer or exhibited...You all were just spectacular!!!

I made a few gorgeous purchases...mostly they were gifts but a few for 'self''...At a later time I will try to highlight all the totally terrific vendors we had...I'm still in awe of the perfectly beautiful yarn they shared with us and made available at Sedalia...You guys ROCK!!!!

Thanks to our committee, volunteers, and the staff/volunteers of Sedalia..without you..this would not have been so successful! You ROCK2~

Twist and Shout

It's always such a great feeling to reach completion on a sock..much more so on 2 socks..

I started this 'gal' just a few weeks ago and did not give her all the attention she deserved because I can only knit socks in a quiet environment..and usually alone if there's counting to be done.

I did take her to knit night last week and was able to get quite a few rows of the cuff completed but when I reached the heel..she had to go back to her hiding place until I was alone. You see, I'm still very challenged by sock knitting although I can do it and I do love knitting socks..I still have to refer to the pattern for heels, gussets..etc..I just don't have that formula in the 'noggin' yet.

Dana gifted me this beautiful yarn after our most wonderful Sedalia Fiber Festival last May..it was her 'thank me' for helping her....little did she know, I loved helping her..she makes work 'PHUN'~I had kept this in a sacred place since wanting to make sure when I used it the pattern would flatter the yarn..I think I made a good choice.

The yarn was purchased from Kid Hollow Farms and it's 48% Kid Mohair, 30% Merino and 22% Nylon and the color is: Brilliant Jewel..and it's so true to it's name. The pattern evolved from another event with Dana, Linda and Jessi..We attended NOSO in Roanoke in Sept. and the pattern was in our 'goodie bag' presented to us upon registration..Well...that day sort of turned into a blur because of the news of my Brother and he passed away just days after..so the pattern was put away and totally forgotten about until I mentioned to Dana I was looking for a nice/easy cuff..and she said she was using this one and would share..Of course, being the pack rat that I am..I knew I still had everything from that day..and sure enough, it actually had made it into a sleeve into my pattern book..I started the pattern and knit about 5+" of cuff..and realized it was going to be huge on me..it was a 66 stitch cast on..but for days I could not bring myself to do what I knew needed doing..RIP IT OUT and start over..but I also knew with this gorgeous yarn..I'd never be happy if it weren't perfect(or as perfect as I am capable of making it)..so days later..I restarted and did a 55 cast on..it fits like a glove..oops sock! It's a perfect fit which I ran scared of much of the way from the heel because I had to fiddle to get my numbers right..

So..I present to you **Sock #1 of Socks With a Twist..The pattern is The Barley Sugar Stitch.

There has been other knitting but mostly bibs, wash cloths, a hat and smaller items..but no photos yet.

Dana and I have been busy filling each others emails daily with correspondence in regards to The Sedalia Fiber Festival, which will be May 16, 2009..We're off to a running start and our exhibitor list is growing..I'm so excited and hopeful that this year will surpass last year. Please visit our lovely website that Dana designed and check out all the wonderful page options she has created for the festival..it may make you want to come share this special day with us...We can almost guarantee you will have a good time and not leave empty handed unless you're on a strict yarn diet.

We're Twins~

Who 'SEZ'..we gotta match to be twins?
I had this leftover yarn from a poncho I made for MOI and decided I needed Mitts 2 Match..knowing they were not going to be perfectly color coordinated did not stop me..because I'm that much of a dare devil..to not really care. Actually, I am just not into caring a bunch about small, minor details of life...such as if my mittens are both the same color all over.
I cast on for these on Sat. evening late and did a few boring rows of the cuff..and on Sun..I decided I was going full steam ahead until these 'boyz' were done..They were a much fun knit and I have loved this yarn from the beginning..It's Austermanns Murano and I found it to be just a pleasure to knit.
There hasn't been a great deal of knitting going on other than a bib or washcloth here and there..but I have yarn all wound for socks and I plan to cast on in the next days..yes, they will be for me also.
I'm trying my best to help with the economy by buying as much yarn as Visa will allow..but I am putting myself on a very strict diet now..because our local Fiber Festival will be in May and I don't want to be totally dollar depleted for that.
I have found a few new online suppliers that have some lovely yarns and the customer service has been TOPS..I'm waiting on 6 skeins that I've ordered from Eleganza Yarns in Frederick, Md..I'll share pix later.
Since I last blogged I've been back for a few weeks with my Mom so that my Sis could return to her home in Fl...after a bit of online searching, I found a fiber fix very close to her home and made a list of goodies I'd like for her to bring me back..she did quite well..mmmMalabrigo~~
I'm trying to find Winter..it seems to have left us..much too quickly!! Since Sat. it has been in the 60's-70 and again tomorrow..BUT last Mon. we did have 15 snowflakes..honestly, not much more but because it was so cold at that time, it stayed around all week. I'm totally ready for a serious snow..I mean bring it ON!!..

Merry Christmas to all my faithful fiber friends...you are the I-cord of my life..even though I don't blog often..you're never far from me in thoughts..and always in my heart.

I hope each of you have had a peaceful, healthy holiday..however you chose to celebrate it..actually quiet is good at times..and much preferred by MOTH..than a huge fanfare.

It has been many years since I spent Christmas Day in the home that I was raised in and grew up in..you grow up, you move out..and you start your own traditions...but for the past many years..to make life easier on my nieces and nephews that have children..I've had Christmas Day at my home..many times including all of them but mostly just my Mom, MIL and my Sister if she was in town. I did this so that my nephews/nieces with children could start their traditions and have Christmas Day in their home..so that their kids could play with their toys and not be dragged to God Knows Where..*(like my house)..and not be able to bring all their toys along...The Great Nieces and Nephews are now getting older and are fun to be around..one is even married and is expecting his own little one in the spring.

This year was the year that you almost do nothing..you question putting the tree up..shopping etc..because my Mom was going through some horrible 'bleu stuff' since my Brother passed away..she was so negative about the holiday..non caring etc..and we were at a loss as to where to go with this...so I decided it was time....TO GO HOME...to her Home..and spend the day with her in her surroundings..rather than uproot her and bring her here..I think it was probably the best idea we could have come up with and she brightened up as the day went by.

So..today my Sister and I did Christmas at my Moms home..I did some cooking, she did some..and it all came together nicely...I invited MIL to join us and MOTH..and Amber..a cousins child that is very loving and attentive to Mom.

Then tomorrow evening we go to a nephews home for the entire fam damily..all 30+ of us..

I've been knitting my fingers off..because as of about Sun. I decided to do fingerless mitts for the kids..and I have 1 mitt to go...actually, the cuff is done on the last one..I can do it!!!

So..all in all..it's been a great holiday..because we went back a bit to basics..and dropped a bit of the drama that gets in the way of the season.

So..tell me..how was yours?

Baby It's COLD Outside~

Well, it really isn't cold out..but what better excuse to use to display new mittens?..

I made these using Cascade Pastaza in a few days..as I raced for the finish line of a friends birthday..then decided I'd felt them a little to add a bit more charm..WELL..
they're in the mail..priority even and I've not heard if she has gotten them or not...I suspect she's away celebrating her special day and not even received them yet...They were fun, easy and my best pair yet..I really need to get a few more pair whipped out before the holidays...eek..it's not far away is it?
I think life is getting back to normal..wherever that is after the death of my Brother..it wasn't totally sudden, but it was much quicker than we anticipated..He was only diagnosed in May with cancer..a really ugly, cruel disease!! It has been difficult on my Mom...He was her first born, her only son..and her memory issues at times play tricks on her..and she forgets he is deceased..but we quickly pull her back and she's ok.
Don't forget tomorrow is Election Day..please go do your civic duty..VOTE!
And with that being said..I'm off to work on ...another blanket~scarf~mittens..or cowl~

My First Mitten

I decided yesterday that I needed to broaden my knitting skills...so I went to my saved emails and found a site that had come recommended by my friend and Sister Marianne some time ago when I flirted with the idea of doing mittens.

This being a test set..I used some left over yarn from a scarf and made them small enough for a child..so I'd have sufficient yardage...I was anxious to move along on this because I can't stand having something hanging over my head..as I progressed..I felt when I got to the thumb..I'd be screaming for help..and I probably should have but I walked through it..perhaps not specifically as the pattern called for..but it pleased me for a first...I've cast on and completed the cuff for her partner...maybe I have a new love...since the sock mojo is missing out west some place...and I must say..I've thoroughly enjoyed this new knit...NOW..I can use some of the pretty yarn that has been designated for gloves/mitts...

The Garden Guard

While spending the first few days of this week at my Moms...part of my duties were to watch my sister's garden..So, I watched...the sunflowers...in all their beauty.

She also has had some great veggies...but they're being guarded by this guy~ AND his buddy..this guy!...

MOTH turns 60

On Saturday, Aug. 2nd, Moth(Mike or Man of the House) turned 60.

I took him and the rest of the gang to The Outback on Fri. night for dinner to celebrate..

I had asked him earlier in the week if he would like to go for dinner and he said..we can just eat at the local Mexican Rest..so I had to use some strong insistence to get him to agree..since I had already invited his Mom, Candice, Jon, Ashley and Cameron to meet us there.

We had a great evening, a fabulous prime rib and it was nice to see the kids..since I'd not seen them in a while due my stay with Mom..

I don't think I would have recognized Cameron..he's over 6' and is just 14..and has let his awesomely beautiful hair go back curly as it was when he was about 2...except at 2, he was more blonde..He's growing into such a handsome young man..and has changed his eating habits from not eating anything but...a very few items..to he will eat anything and everything..he devoured his meal quite rapidly, in additon to 2 loaves of their wonderful bread, then Mike and I both shared some prime rib with him..as well as he had a few pieces of Ashley's chicken fingers..then a huge dessert...not too mention he was lusting over the rest of my prime rib.

Princess Ashley is just that..a little Princess..sweet as she can be, very well behaved and quite an entertainer..her dancing skills are so cute to watch...I hope they will enroll her in dance classes in the near future..she will begin pre-school in the fall...
It was a great evening even tolerating MIL wasn't so bad..lol

On Sat. I fixed him one of his favorite meals at home..Fried Soft Shell Crab, Steamed Shrimp and a salad..and cheesecake...so today, we're fasting!
Tomorrow will mark another special day..it's the birthday of my special friend and Sock-Sister, Dana..Dana..Have a Happy Happy Birthday!!

Strings and Things

What do you do with your yarn scraps?..I mean those that you snip off after binding off..

When I first began knitting and would leave a strand of yarn lying around, 'Moth'(Man Of The House) would collect it and started tying it together..Now, there may be a few skeins that slipped through the cracks on him while I was away at Moms but for the most part, I think he's gotten a smidgen...this is his display..a bit of a dust collector, but he's very proud of the blend of colors..

RVSK Raffle

The RVSK (Roanoke Valley Spinners and Knitters) are holding a raffle to raise money for some of their knit family that have been involved in some serious fire accidents.
One is for Austin, the young son of a knitter who was burned very badly over 60-70% of his body and is receiving treatment/surgeries at The Shriners Childrens Hospital in Ohio. The Roanoke group as well as anyone else that has wanted to be involved have been knitting squares for a blanket for Austin.
As well last week, Knitegrity(Diana's) husband Larry was injured quite badly in a grilling accident and was air lifted to The University of Va. Hospital but has since been sent home..but recovery is still in the early stages. We are also doing a blanket for him.
Nikki and Pam..great, caring knitters of the community organized a raffle and it's posted on Ravelry. They have 2 Ravelry totes and are hoping to get donations of other items to raffle along with them, in addition to taking monetary donations via paypal. The proceeds will be divided and given to the families.
If you have some extra yarn or some other craft that you do and would like to donate..please feel free to do so..it feels good to give and help.

The Beauty of The Swallowtail

There are times I wish that I were more creative in my writing abilities and knew all the nifty gestures for making it exciting but this is as good as it gets..from the heart.

I had planned to blog for a long while and seems I could always find an excuse or was just too busy, so there's catch-up to do.

As all of you that read me..know I was involved with The Queen of Festivals in helping organize and pull off the most successful of Fiber Festivals to be held at Sedalia..I thank Dana for allowing me to be involved in such a successful venture...We were overwhelmed by the support from Vendors and participation at the event. There was lots of work and Dana did the butt load of it but when it came time to pull together and make it happen, everyone pitched in. Since Dana had the advantage(she may add dis. to that) of being so computer literate, she took care of all the business end of making it successful. On Friday before the actual event..Dana, Lara, Linda, Jim, Teresa and myself lifted and moved tables that should have been moved by front end loaders..so you know if you ever run into us Bedford gals..we have 'biceps'..On Saturday, bright and early..Dana, Andie, Michelle, Linda, Nikki, Lara and I showed up and I don't think we stopped long enough to do much more than a little shopping..but we had great attendance, awesome vendors, wonderful door prizes and perfect weather.. Dana has posted photos of the event but she failed to post this particular one..she had just said to me..If I HAVE TO TELL YOU TO GET BUSY ONE MORE TIME...I'M SENDING YOU HOME!!

We all got some awesome yarns ..and other accessories..as well as some gifts and some exchanged gifts...Dana gifted me this most gorgeous yarn and it will become socks when my 'sock mojo' returns..he's taken a short leave. Isn't it just breathtaking?

I look forward to the opportunity to work with Dana again next year, if she will have me onboard~

I won't fill this post with all the other pretties that I picked up that day..after all, who wants to see my roving, since you know I don't spin..haha...but maybe I will one day..after all..I do now have a Special Spindle that was gifted to me by Lara and handmade by her hubby Andy..AND with the expertise of Lara...perhaps I can become a bit proficient.

Let's see...there was also a awesome sale at Knitters Knook..which I was able to attend and twisted Lara and Linda's arms and made them go with me..we all came home with some wonderful bargains plus a great visit at the shop and a delicious lunch!

I have a few projects on the needles but the last few weeks I have been focused on doing blanket squares as there have been some tragic accidents among our local/regional knitting community.

I had the dreaded GYN visit a few weeks ago..all was well, except she was concerned I had gained a bit of weight in the past year..I explained to her that my life had been erratic and my eating habits were not the best...well, I think a bag of chocolate and a box of little debbies is quite healthy but my body obviously didn't..so the Dr. insisted on doing thyroid check..I would have bet the farm there was no problem and I was right...thyroid was perfect..so I have started to limit the chocolate..which I can do easier when I'm home and less stressed..Going to the GYN always stresses me beyond belief..so the day I got home I found this package on my porch..as I began to open it I wondered if I had slept through the summer and Christmas had arrived..Marianne my sweet Sis of Oklahoma had sent me the best goody package a gal could ask for..I will post pix of the sock yarn, the beautiful yarn she suggested I use to make fingerless mitts..and with that she also agreed to come here and teach me how..there were mitered squares, chocolate..Chocolate with chilies and cherries, soaps that smell too beautiful to use and too die for White Blossom Diffuser Oil..what a fragrance to wake up to. She also sent me this perfectly terrific key holder..and you can't understand this..but something I need desperately..because I lose my keys more than I lose my train of thought...which is often~...I know you're waiting for the kicker huh...well..she also sent this and honest to God it brings tears to my eyes..it's such a work of art and too think someone so talented would take the time to make something this beautiful and give it away...well..yes to their Sis..I can understand. I've thanked her but again..it's too hard to put into words the beauty, the love and the true generosity of Marianne in sharing this most gorgeous shawl with me..I'm going to show you a few pix hubby snapped today...please be patient, remember..look at the shawl, it's The SwallowTail..

I have shown it locally to everyone I know..and some that I don't and they're all just astounded by the beauty...I can't wait for the weather so I can wear it daily!!!...

Marianne, thank you..you're the BEST SIS a gal could have..I love you!

A Week of Rest and Loss of Needles~

If I look tanned and rested..I probably should be, but on the other hand..a week in the Mayan Riviera isn't a guarantee that this will happen. Mike and I left on May 1 and returned on May 8 for a week at our 'spot'..Due to the fact we left cold, rainy weather and rushed into 'uber humid' and hot air..our bodies or souls did not adapt so easily. On Sunday Mike started feeling cruddy..and by the end of the day it would be that he didn't feel up to going for dinner..and a sinus infection was in the works..Fortunately one of our friends had been to the pharmacy that day and had picked up extra amoxicillin and he started on that immediately...late Mon. nite I began with horrible body aches and a tuberculin cough and by morn., I was feeling as bad as I needed to feel..even passed on going for my favorite breakfast of smoked salmon on bagel...by mid morning my cough grew very concerning and we had the hotel Dr. come by hoping to be able to get the medication I take at home for allergy/asthma stuff...but he 'no could find' that particular rx..so he prescribed a decongestant and antihistimine and ordered that I turn off the A/c..that was really not an issue at the time because I was miserably cold anyway..and I suspect he realized after I told him my allergy history that the A/c was piping more mold into the room than my poor system could tolerate..so the next few days we got much bed rest, did drugs and truly considered checking on an earlier flight home..We've been home since Thurs. and are both still not 100% but each day seems to be better..if I can just ditch this cough.
To add insult to injury..I had taken knitting along on this trip as I ALWAYS do and always ask security first if I can take on in my carry on..it's always no problem..again this year I was able to board from my home airport with knitting in carry on, knitted in Charlotte airport and all the way to Cancun..no problema..A week later I asked at check in if I could keep my knitting in carry on..no problem..This was not to be the case...after an hour of waiting to get to the security check point and my checked bags were well on their way to some other area..I was pulled aside and told I could not bring those needles in my carry on..This was not a pleasant moment for me..I tried to make my case but there were 2 really bitchy young girls that had already decided they were going to confiscate(steal) my knitting needles..so I asked for a supervisor..well I may as well have called for Mother Teresa..because he came and already had made his mind up that this American was not boarding that plane with knitting needles..so I had to take the partially finished scarf off of my Addi Turbo lace needles, my #7 straights and my #4 dpns..all gone..I have one small regret but I was so upset that I wasn't thinking rationally and the fear was mounting that my husband was going to be arrested because he was so irate..but I do wish I had broken them in half and pulled the cable loose on the Addi..mean aren't I?..Have you ever had your needles confiscated/stolen?
Actually..that was the needle that broke the camels back..because we have been going to this place for 10 years, spending a large chunk of money and helping their economy..this shall come to an end..I will NEVER go there again..and yes, those of you that know me ...know how I love the place..but I will not go back!
Of course once home and I found about our knit Sister Rae and her loss..She lost her entire home, all of her knitting supplies and her family Kitty...my dilemma pales in comparison.
So..back to knitting and making it count..Happy Stitching to all~
Today(the reason for the pix) Linda(SockSister) and myself went over to Lynchburg College for a taping for a segment to advertise the upcoming Fiber Festival, It's called The Sedalia Fiber Festival and it will be held on May 24.

What a glorious day here in Central Va...the temp. got up to 82 and it was delightful!

I spent the morning doing a little shopping...went to the other Macy's that is west of us...found 2 perfect little dresses for vacation...both sun/halter type...but can be dressed up nicely...one being a very simple basic black..but very flattering. I'm truly not a shopper...I make record time when doing it..I have an idea of what I want..go to it...and it either works, I purchase or I leave..not very patient in the shopping...

I suppose my lack of patience in shopping filters over to most areas of shopping I do...including fiber...and I've found I can buy at any time of the day or night..easy check out, no rude cashier and they're always open when I purchase online...my LLBean credit card will attest to this..lol

I laundered Macy today and all that is left is to steam her..she turned out quite nice..but I am not going to sit here and say..linen is an easy knit..for me..still a youthful knitter..I find it difficult to work with and it splits easily...but the finished product is a real feel good! I attempted once again to add a photo here..but no can do...argh...I tested my camera and I can send photos via email, so I don't think it's a tech issue on my end.

The top photo that blogger let me upload is of Ricardo..he is my finished product from the Needle Felting class last Sat...taught by the lovely Lara..of Spinning Lara. I totally enjoyed learning that new little skill and it was quite a stress buster...what damage one could do with those needles..

Here's hoping you all have a great and productive weekend..I know it's the time of year for yard work, flower beds etc...but what about KNITTING...shouldn't we always have a little time for that too?

Barnes Noble Knitting Adventure

Greetings from this end of the world..I know it's been a while..and I've been reprimanded for it...maybe I will be better about blogging, maybe not..it's like many other things, if it becomes a chore..it's no longer fun..plus my camera has been fighting for it's life..and I finally gave up on 'her' and bought a new one..so I can share pictures.
I've been home for a week now and much of that time has been spent trying to get my head back on my shoulders and be a wife, mom and re-energize myself..10 months of being gone 90% of the time was much more than I thought it would be..now, I can say I can relate to being institutionalized.
My Mom is still doing well, for the situation...she graduated from physical therapy last week..and she is walking quite well with the assistance of her walker...sadly..the memory is still missing in action.
My sister took early retirement from her job so that she could move here on a part-time basis to help with Mother...and she's been here a week and is ready to go back to Fl..lol
At least now I will have longer periods of time at home..even though I will still have to go spend time so that my Sister can return to her home to check on her property etc.
I had one of my first outings in a long while today and boy..what fun!
I left home a bit early this morning so I could stop by a local printer and drop off our posters for the upcoming Fiber Festival to be held on May 24, then I drove over to the neighboring town..Lynchburg and ran some errands..spent a while in Macy's..long enough to score 2 pairs of shoes and some new cologne..yep..I do love nice fragrances..so I bought the new Tommy Girl..it's a very light floral scent..so far..it's nice, but I do tire of the same scent..they really should bottle in smaller bottles so a gal can have all her heart desires.
Then, I met Linda and I was so excited that I was going to post her pix, but I must have screwed up something because Blogger won't let me do this..argh We had a delightful lunch at Paneras then we were off to Petsmart where we both needed stuff for our 'kids'...then on to Barnes Noble for some serious knitting, visiting and getting assistance.
Lara met us there and she so willingly had agreed to teach me how to do a crochet edging I needed for a linen shawl I had knit..well..it was a bit harder than I thought it would be and the linen seemed to be a whole lot of a problem in being cooperative to this beginner..so I did a few stitches with lots of help and then the ever so kind Lara finished it for me and again the unkind blogger won't let me add the pix...Maybe I have more to learn about the new camera but I thought I had it all figured out..
After a few hours of visiting, a bit of knitting I began my journey home..this old gal was ready for her nap, but the Pup was ready for his walk..he won.

Sleepless in Bedrock

Good Morning..and may I add...very early morning..argh
This was the morning that I had said...I am going to sleep late and catch up on this DLST loss...well, wouldn't you know that at 2:30 a.m...I woke up...wide awake and can't find sleep..I first thought I'd just check mail, then I was in Ravelry, then on to read a few blogs, knit a few rows, worked a puzzle left over from yesterdays newspaper..how I love the jumble.
My Dad and I used to have a battle over who got to solve it first, looking over each others shoulders directing the other..or trying to solve it without unjumbling the words..brings back such fond memories..now my Sister and I challenge each other with this..and I am SO much better than she...lol..the one left over from yesterday was one she had asked me about last night on the phone and because yesterday was most hectic with Dr. appts...etc, I hadn't even looked at it..but it's now 'dun'
While surfing blogs I ran by Nikki's...please do likewise and if you're able to help...contribute to her Relay For Life..such a great worthwhile cause...for those survivors as well as those that were not so fortunate. I am sure there is not a single one of us here that hasn't lost someone to cancer or know someone dealing with at the present.

Greetings to all my Fellow Fiber Fiends,
I do apologize for how long it's been since I've blogged but being away from home, not accomplishing much on the knitting front and certainly not much of a social calendar..therefore my life hasn't been much to write about and there are no pix to share..for several reasons...but the main one being, my camera seems to have bitten the dust..or it is menopausal and works on occasion....so I am in the market for a new, smaller..easy to use camera.
We made it through the holidays and everyone received a gift of some nature..some were fiber..others were paper...either way, everyone was gifted and pleased I suppose.
I am still living mostly with my Mom..being her caregiver which has become a bit more involved since she had a temporal hemorrhage on Jan. 3...fortunately there wasn't any speakable damage..except the bit of short term memory she had reserved seems to have taken a great hit.
I get home most days for a few hours to visit with MOTH and the BOYS..and my sister has been very generous with her time in coming from Fl. quite regularly to give me 5-7 day breaks.
As of April, this will change as my Sister has decided to take early retirement and move this way on a part time basis..keeping her home in Fl. but she will be more flexible to stay for longer periods..giving me more time at home.
I was most fortunate to have the opportunity to visit The Knitters Knook for it's Grand Opening and it was most delightful...a very nice array of good quality yarns and so nicely presented...Yeah Becky..I'm very happy that you have your own shop...and I look forward to many little trips up your way...It was such fun to have a day away..and to meet up with so many fiber friends and to meet so many others that I've read your blogs but not put a face on..
I did buy a laptop so I do keep up with blogs and Ravelry but I don't always have the time to comment or do much surfing...seems Mom has this little persistent cough she gets when I start doing something fun..lol

I really hate having CRS..because I forget to photograph half of what I knit..and it's gone out the door..but just to keep this an honest knit blog...I've done these: I used more Encore ..color was Ocean and I used the Horcrux pattern..

I have a Branching Out Scarf on the needles, more socks, a poncho...and squares..I better knit while there's time because once my real life returns..I may have to resume being a housewife, chief cook and bottle washer....hmmm

This is Lorna..of Lorna's Laces and her color is Lakeview..I call it MouthWatering..it calls me to be made into some special pattern that is yet to be determined but my feet will be happy soles when done...This was also a gift..gifted to me from Dana...the Queen of All Things Fibery..including socks..I've had this for a while and not had the time to knit her..but she will be given her time soon....Thank you Dana...You're a Dear Lady/Friend and SockSister..

I will also share a picture of my beautiful friend Erni that is turning 70 on Wed...she and I are fellow Virgos and celebrated our birthdays together for many years...Last evening some former teaching associates gave Erni a proper party...lots of good food...drink and fun!!Happy Early Birthday Erni....You're a terrific lady and friend...You look most awesome at 70!! She has the most beautiful skin...and not a wrinkle...She's a firm believer in positive thinking..and it's certainly worked for her...This is Erni~~'

It was a superb evening enjoyed by all and had the opportunity to relax and see some 'old' friends..

As promised last night ..I am going to share the next picture of another Fiber Treat..This one is:

Opal and the colors are rust and blue..My camera doesn't do the beautiful blends in this yarn any favors...but I do hope the socks that I knit from it will let you see how lovely it is.

This was gifted to me from my Spinning Sock Sister..Linda~~Linda is the most gentle and kind woman I've ever met..she welcomes you into her life through her heart and you just feel so safe there...and she gives just the best hugs..they warm you from head to toe..AND she gives lots of them..Linda has also served as one of my lifelines during this ordeal with Mom..she's taught me that even the nicest people can be 'assholes' if they need to be..Actually Jim(Linda's Husband and delightful gentleman)...shared with me that this lovely lady I just described was a 'closet asshole'...and I've just loved using that term..because the last few months..I've had to unleash and open my closet on numerous occasions and it's felt much better knowing it's OK. Thank you Linda...it's gorgeous yarn and will warm my 'soul/soles.

Aren't you glad you went to Mannings?...I can't wait until I get the chance to go again..even if it's not until next year...it's worth the wait.

I'm going to attend a little social outing this evening...I've hired someone to stay with Mom for a few hours and I'm going to a party to honor a dear friend who turns 70 on Wed...

Erni is a lady that was born well before her time...She's one of the most talented folks I've ever met..and isn't afraid to tackle anything. She's bright, funny and so darn attractive...and I love how she bargains...Erni has been eligible to retire for several years..and each year before signing her contract...she does so knowing if it's a bad year...she can quit midway..although I know unless it were a health issue...she would not do this..But this year, there were some staff changes and she really felt it was time for her to not return..and after much persuasion from other faculty members, she agreed..BUT only if they would host a birthday party for her..so they agreed.

I look forward to seeing Erni and many of the other friends that I taught with that have since retired..should be a fun evening!

I was going to do a huge post and show you lots of goodies..but instead..I am going to keep you in suspense and show you 1 item at a time...The selection process will be done in no order ..strictly in how they were downloaded into my files....so here's the first one: It's from that gorgeous, sexy and most talented...not too mention superb blogger Marianne...she gifted me this.

It's just truly breathtaking!! It's Peace Fleece...Now I feel I can knit with the 'Big Gurls'...I never had Peace Fleece before but I must tell you...come this winter my 'soles' will be warmed by this beautiful blend of Fibery Goodness..In addition, she sent me this most fragrant handmade soap and lotion that makes your hands feel like silk..or cotton..either way...they feel like men will be fighting to hold them and the yarn won't be screaming when I hold it...Marianne...thank you from the bottom of my heart...it seems that everyone has at some point been blessed with some of Mariannes goodies..whether it be her warm, tender words of good hope...or her legendary stitch markers...I've been fortunate..I have had both..NOW..I have Peace Fleece..

A quick note on my Mom..for all of you that have been so kind and considerate in your warm thoughts and prayers...She has hit yet another snag...She is once again dealing with C-Diff...Tues. morning I started noticing some symptoms and mentioned to the staff...they of course thought I was overreacting and of course they didn't want to think it was possible, but by Tues. evening I insisted on them doing a stool analysis....on Wed. about noon, much to their chagrin...they came to tell me she had tested positive again...so we're off with yet another round of antibiotics, back in isolation and dealing with the fact that this is life long. I have come to realize in the last 12 hours that I can't handle this alone...that I can't continue to live there 20-24 hours a day..even though she isn't happy when I leave..even for a few hours..I have gotten someone to start tomorrow to give me some relief for a few hours a day...and I am still trying to wean her off of someone being there overnight and letting the nursing staff do what they're paid for..quite handsomely, I might add.

Thank you MS. K..for organizing the project for the Miners in Utah..I have finished 1 square and midway a 2nd..I'm not sure how many I will complete...but they are all done with the utmost love and compassion for those families that have lost their loved ones.

So...with all this being said..Happy Knitting, Spinning and huge hugs of thanks to all of you.

Yarn Therapy

I never realized how therapeutic fiber could be but if I had not had fiber the last 8 weeks..I'd be in a padded cell.
It's been 8 weeks today since Mom fell and broke her leg..the leg is doing beautifully even after falling from the bed at the Rehab..but she developed another LITTLE problem a few weeks ago...actually longer but because they would not listen to her NON NURSE daughter..she went undiagnosed and nearly died. I started telling all shifts a month ago that she had diarrhea...not just once..but multiple times..daily...occasionally as many as 6 times a day...They shrugged..and said..we'll fax the Dr...I really wish I knew whatever happened to the phone method of communication..soooo they said they faxed..and he said to give her some Imodium...I am quite sure he meant give her Imodium for a one time occasion...not 6 times nor 2 weeks..but I made continual mention to the nurse, the charge nurse..and finally after 2 weeks..and she projectiled on the physical therapist..did they decide maybe she needed to be tested for C-Diff...which she tested positive for...She had stopped eating 10 days prior to this..barely enough to keep a bird alive..and was close to being dehydrated...They started her on the first course of treatment, which was Flagyl...after 2 days they realized they needed to go to the 'big guns' and not play around any longer...She laid in total discomfort and was in a horribly grumpy mood for the first week and did not show any improvement..actually at the end of her first week...she was worse and they made some other adjustments in her medications and added more to her IV..Of course this was not without incidence..of the poking and probing by a unskilled IV person...so she felt like a pin cushion and had bruises to speak for the abuse. Finally after a very gloomy week and weekend...on Monday, she began to say...'I feel a little better'...She was finally gotten out of bed and each day since has made minute progress and has been able to have some isolated therapy.
I have stayed 20-24 hours a day with her since this started and have decided that sleeping in a recliner ranks with sleeping on the ground in a campground...
During this time I am sure I have not made any lifetime friends with the staff...because trust me..I have lambasted everyone that I can get in the face of...and with good reason...
My Mom has always taken great pride in her personal appearance as well as her personal hygiene and there is no reason just because she can't get into the shower or tub that she can't have the same quality of personal care...therefore I have temporarily moved into her room...I leave daily for a few hours to come home for a shower and change of clothes..and have a meal with Mike...I have not returned once that I did not find her agitated...either at me for leaving her..and she felt abandoned...or that she had been neglected by the staff..mostly the latter.
When I leave...I always tell the CNA that is in charge of her..as well as the charge nurse and anyone else that may be walking down her hall that I am leaving and leave a detailed message by her bed...I assure them when she rings her bell..it is because she needs the bedpan...not because she wants to socialize...but yet when I return..I find she has either been left for long periods while awaiting the pan..or left unattended on the pan...and always left in a most unclean state...There is absolutely no excuse for the lack of care she has gotten. I've tried to equate to the caregiver that I only expect her to have 1/10 of her time if she has 10 patients, but she will require much less...because I bathe her daily, dress her and take care of all her personal needs...including making sure she has eaten(when she eats) and return her tray..
I've even begun to think maybe I expect too much...but the price tag that accompanies her stay here would indicate she should receive 5***** care.
I'm so very grateful to be at a place in my life that I don't have to work and can give my Mom this time...and even though we already had a very close bond...it's far greater than before..
I can't say it's been without incident...she's gotten fretted with me at times..and I've gotten cranky with her too...especially before she was diagnosed..I accused her of being stubborn for not eating...not realizing how ill she was...
But...I have gotten some little knitting projects done between my nursing duties...I've completed a few socks..almost one side of a poncho and started another scarf...not too mention dish/wash cloths...Once the dust settles, I am anxious to knit another sweater...and by then it will be time to wear it...but I sure hope I don't have time to knit this 'said' sweater while being the 'queen of bed pan'...Dana, I dare you to challenge me for that title...it's all MINE!!
Fiber Friends and local friends have all been such a rock of support during this ordeal..I can't say thank you enough for the emails, calls and visits to my Mom..Trust me without your kindness..I may have gone 'postal' on a nurse..

Short and Sweet...So SWEET

It's been a while since I've blogged and I have so much that needs to be photographed in the way of new yarn, gifted yarn...beautiful yarn, but I haven't had the time to take photos of it..I even have a NEW gifted ball winder...which I have no photo of..but thanks go out to my wonderful knitterly friends for providing me with so many gifts of fiber and the needed accessory to make the fiber usable. Dana and Linda have both gifted me with beautiful yarns for no reason other than...they're just 'GOOD People'...and Linda went a step further and gifted me a ball winder because she felt I was never going to take the leap to buy one..and with this winder...she gave me YARN...not just yarn..but homespun YARN...which is just too beautiful for words.

I think this is what the knitterly world does when their knitterly partners have uncontrollable stuff happening in their lives...this keeps them on an even 'knit cycle'...which I for one can't see disturbing.

Today was the "Icing on the Cake"...Linda, Dana and Nikki came to the hospital to visit with my Mom and knit with me...OH it gets better...Dana prepared lunch and brought it. They presented this to me that we would have a Stitch & Bitch at the hospital...at first I was apprehensive because Mothers room was quite small...but the large room Gods smiled on us and a private room came available on Sat..so there was room for a knitting/lunch social.

Dana prepared a wonderful lunch...quiche(2 types-spinach and mushroom) crab dip and crackers, grapes and a wonderful blueberry pound cake. I will admit I have not been able to eat hospital food as much as I try to encourage my Mother she must eat it...The Quiche was awesome, the fellowship was just too wonderful for words..I love you Gals!

There were gifts...Linda gifted my Mom with some candies, mints, note cards and stationery..and some tissue paper...lol...Linda also gifted me with some sock yarn...some awesome Fortissima, that I just love the colors of..I can't wait to catch up on making socks with my Sock Stash...I know the time will come...this is just temporary.

Then..There were more gifts...Our BlogSister Marianne had sent a gift via Dana for Linda and Nikki..her famous Stitch Markers...and boy were they ecstatic...of course my camera wasn't out of the bag in time for the initial opening but I do have a shot of them after they had drooled over them for a while....Marianne...your presence was felt..You're one of us..I think you're a Virginian by Virtue(I've heard that's a good thing)

I'm sorry if I forgot something...the most important thing was the love I felt being with you gals, sharing something I enjoy and your being warm, gentle and caring enough to come into my Mothers room and spend this time...She truly enjoyed...Ms. Payne was so pleased to have been invited over and said she had so many questions she would love to ask about spinning but didn't know quite what to ask and would love to see you gals with your wheels some day...

Thank you Dana, Linda, Nikki and Marianne for making such a special day...you gave me a boost I surely needed and even if Mom nodded...she was still there with us and enjoyed your company...she bragged to all her other visitors about our knit fest.

Let's Talk About EYE CANDY

There is nothing better for an ailing woman than to see a handsome man!...A Handsome Gentleman..even!..One with a beautiful accent that kisses her hand as he meets her!...YES...This man does exist..and he is the mate to my dear friend Dana...What a Sweetheart he is!!
I was on the phone with a friend this evening and I heard this voice that I didn't recognize..with a very awesome accent..I looked up to see this incredibly handsome man ..and he was looking for...My Mother/Me...He was so cute..as he was asking the lady in the bed next to Mom...if she was my Mom..and if her daughter knitted..by then..I'm knowing this voice belongs to Mohamed..Dana's Husband...so I end my phone call..(what woman would not..when she sees a handsome man with an accent in a uniform)..DUH!!..and I introduce myself..**Dana, I fully understand how you fell in love with this man..he is just totally charming!! I felt like I had known him all my life after a simple introduction and the way he greeted my Mother was just totally heartwarming..I dare say..many men have kissed her hand upon being introduced..she was just totally 'charmed'..Thank you for sharing ..and for him to take the time to come visit...
It truly made her day...because she was a bit sad due to the fact my Sis had left earlier...so a Prince to the rescue saved the day.
Dana..You have a wonderful family...and I feel so blessed to be a friend of yours..you're made of 'good stuff'...
I look forward to seeing you on Mon..
This has been a bit of a challenge this evening...so far SO good..I left Mom alone for the first time tonight..so far no calls..and it's 11 p.m...I had a hard time breaking away but I do realize that part of her therapy should be to become independent once again...and she can't do this with me sleeping at the foot of her bed...Her roommate is a lovely lady..although she's probably less mobile than Mom...but her hearing is better than Moms..so she will keep me posted if anything is less than kosher...I think she likes to see me when I get the attack face on....she benefits as well.

Greensburg Squares etc.

Just a quick post to let everyone know that Mom is continuing to do well...although she is finding therapy exhausting, she is willing to give it her all. Her level of confusion is better but she still tends to drift back to where we lived about 40+ years ago in the evenings..although it's sometimes for a brief while...she will refer to the location when speaking of where she lives...she's easily corrected and doesn't take offense when we do so..so there is much to be said for her good sense of humor and attitude.

Her caregivers..including my Sister and self..have been top notch..I could not ask for better care..but there have been a few in higher positions I've questioned the need for that particular position. I won't spend much time on that issue at this time..but if there continues to be 'issues'..I will be kicking butt and taking names..not necessarily in that order.

I have had a great deal of time on my hands between therapy and bedpan duties to knit..so I've spent it doing squares for The Greensburg Project...I've also completed a scarf using Oh My..for the granddaughter of a friend, I've started another Feather and Fan using some Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino...ahhh..and I cast on and finished the leg of a sock using that beautiful pale lilac encore that I got at LYS..I also finished a Koigu Fan/feather scarf..No pix..and I gave to a friend in Pa. this weekend but it was awesome!!..and just some small odd items I've had on the needles for a bit...

Continued thanks to all of you for your thoughts, messages and calls..they're such a source of strength.

We had thought we were going to be able to move Mom into a private room yesterday but the gentleman that was checking out...had some other medical problems as he was about to leave and landed right back in that wonderful room..so we wait..patiently ..for someone to be well enough to go home. She continues to ask me at the rate of once an hour..how long will I be here...geesh..I wish I knew...I just know it will be a while.

Again, Thanks to each of you for your kinds thoughts and warm wishes..I think they're working.
Mom is doing much better...I've still not been comfortable to leave her alone but I feel the next few days we can leave for a few hours and not worry that she will try to escape the bed.
I think she has resolved that she is going to be in this facility for a while and if she doesn't do anything such as fall again by trying to escape...it will be a quicker release.
She is currently doing much better and once she finishes the antibiotic for the UTI...I know she will feel much better..seems she has had every side effect possible with the Cipro..so only a few more days and she will have finished this.
The physical and occupational therapy is going well..they're working with her daily and each day pushing her a bit more. She still tires easily and is ready for bed once they're through but she makes it through the entire regimen.
She has to return to the surgeon on Tues. for a follow up visit...I will be anxious to hear how he feels she is doing.
My sister is still here and has been staying the evenings/nights and I've been able to sleep at home but I am going to take over the nights tonight and give her a little break. It was because she was here that hubby and I were able to get away for the weekend..a much needed little getaway. We left on Fri. morning early and drove up to PA....the nature of the trip was for him to go to a Civil War Memorabilia Show that is held there in Gettysburg...but after hearing of The Mannings place, www.the-mannings.com.. which is less than a half hour from our final destination...I bargained with Hubby for a quick stop there...Well...I should just tell you this..I would have to take a 2nd mortgage on the house if I had a longer while there...they have a wonderful shop..AND I didn't even fondle much of the yarn..nor did I go into the room with the wheels...but even so, I still did a handsome amount of damage to my Visa...
It was a very warm and pleasant atmosphere..and the location and drive was just most relaxing...all the beautiful farm land and orchards...better than any medication I could possibly take.
I've almost completed my 4th square for the charity project and then I think I will begin some personal project.
Again, thanks for the uplifting words, emails and calls..I remain grateful to each of you.

Progress Report

Thank each and every one of you for the kind words of support and encouragement..they have kept me going these last days.
My Mom stayed at the hospital in the orthopedic unit from Mon. night until Fri. afternoon..at that time I had her transported to our local hospital/nursing home which has a rehab floor.
We are back at ground zero in that she is very confused and disoriented. I am sure the fact that she had anesthesia and morphine have not been helpful in this situation. She will begin therapy on Mon. but meanwhile it's all about keeping her comfortable and assured she is going to be able to return to her normal lifestyle..I'm trying to be the lead cheerleader and I have doubts that this will happen..but I am trying to remain positive. She has frequent lapses of not being aware that she has changed hospitals which quickly change to thinking she is home..in addition to some 'out of body sensations'..which I feel are morphine related. Last night was very T.O.U.G.H...I have been going on next to no rest or sleep and not been in a bed since Sunday night..and then Mom looks at me and said..'why did you put me in the crazy house?' I am not crazy...well, this broke my heart...I nearly picked her up and carried her home and made the attempt to care for her...which when I think sanely..I know this is impossible..but we did have a very good cry with me assuring her that she was not crazy...she was not in a crazy house..and that we were going home..In her state of mind it was very difficult to try to convince her that everyone on this floor has some sort of injury requiring therapy...and I'm afraid I was not successful, because again this morning..she asked if she could go home today. I was able to leave today and come home..and lay in my bed while a cousin sat with her...sadly I could not sleep for worry..I think I may have slept an hour and I was up on the phone checking on her..It was so hard to leave her because I felt so guilty when I looked at her and explained how every tired I was and I was going home to rest for a bit...she welled up and cried. I can only imagine the thoughts going through her mind that I was bailing out on her..
It will be a very long road to recovery even if it goes perfect. The surgeon said 2-3 months and that is IF she doesn't have to have additional surgery and have a plate put in..which all depends on how well the soft tissue heals.
The highlight today was that my Mother in Law..who bless her soul is a good woman..but she tends to have this 'know it all' attitude'..informed me that I was going to have to get my mother off of this pain medication...I merely lifted the sheet and said LOOK...do you think you would not need pain meds if your leg looked like this..I won this battle as I saw her knees get weak and she turned her head..Yes God..thank you...Dianne 1...Joyce 0.
Please continue to keep my Mom in your thoughts..she's a very important part of my knitting world and she hears me speak of my knitting friends...so she will feel your warm vibes.
When this is over and Mom is home..I will take time to pencil in a nervous breakdown..until then..MS.K...could I borrow one of your uniforms?..

My Mom

I realize this isn't a lonely hearts or sympathy blog..but just because I know most of you are caring people..I'm asking you to keep my Mom in your thoughts.
She had a very ugly fall yesterday afternoon..breaking 2 bones in her leg..very badly..she had surgery last night and there may be additional surgery later..She's in quite a bit of pain..as I'd imagine..but she's being quite the trooper.
I only came home to take care of some necessities..ie..clean clothes and my toothbrush and I'm back to the hospital..

Pure and Simple..MY EYE~~

Being a middle aged person, I should know when something reads pure and simple..that it's merely a title..it really doesn't mean..it's 'pure' or 'simple'..

As they say..'A sucker is born every minute'...I fell for the..it's easy line once again.

Ok..it wasn't TOO bad...

The Weekend Neck Down Pullover that is...I still think there was a misrepresentation on the name..unless there are 6 days in a weekend..this can't be true.

I started this 'beast' last Saturday by casting on for the neck..that went very quickly and I was quite pleased ..then I knew I would need some professional help after this..well thank God for the professional that she is..also a very honest one..I had cast on for a size 50..Becky felt that even if I had successful implants that there would still be room in a size 50 for me and a large family of elephants...so I ripped it all out on Monday and did it considerably smaller...after having the immediate questions answered and knowing I was capable at this point of making it through the yoke..I came home and knit fiercely...so that I could be right back at the shop on Tues. for help on dividing for the sleeve..and then I made it through the rest of the sweater and didn't harass the yarn shop again until Fri..at which time I was 'stuck on sleeves' again..well, actually I wasn't really stuck but I needed a little 'remedial help' on those stitches that needed to be picked up..and then I was on my own again..I finished the sleeves and she is now ready for those final touches of finishing the loose ends.

I have to say..I'm very surprised that it was as easy as it was..and also that it turned out as nicely as it did..remember folks..it's my first,...it's not perfect but it gives me motivation to do again and reach perfection.

The pattern that I used was from Knitting Pure and Simple and it's called Weekend Neck Down Pullover..#224. I used almost 8 skeins of Encore Mega on #16 circulars..in #240, which is oatmeal like in color..I think a great choice in color as it will match anything in the wardrobe..

My most gracious thanks for the professional help..being there and being willing to lead me in the right direction...and a few laughs which are always good for a nervous knitter..
I can also say in total honesty..for some of you speed demon knitters out there..it could easily be done in a weekend.

Happy Birthday Mom

Happy Birthday Mom!!

Today is my Mothers 87th birthday..

Thank you for being the great Mother you've always been, always there for me and even now..you're still here for me...sometimes I have to do the role reversal and be the parent but you still get the final say.
There are 3 of us kids..I'm the younger and live here nearby..I have a older brother and sister..he lives here and my sister lives in Florida.
My Mom is the Grandmother and Great Grandmother to many..some are actually related and others have just claimed her over the years..the young lady in the pix is the daughter to a cousin, but this is Granny to her.
She is also the older of 4 surviving children in her family..she has 3 younger sisters.

We had a great day..We went to Lynchburg and made a few quick stops and then we went to The Olive Garden for lunch. We had a wonderful lunch and it was so awesome getting to spend the time with her..

She is still very independent for her age..even though there is 'mild' dementia..I'm so grateful that she is still able to live alone and take care of herself as well as she does..There are days that the memory is more scattered than others..but so is mine...

I admire her in that she has been able to live alone since my Father passed away 17 years ago.
I know that has been most difficult for her but she has made the best of it.

Of course I worry about her..I worry that she sometimes doesn't eat properly, I worry that she's not careful and she may fall...and I worry...what IF..something happens to me and I can't be here to help her...I guess you gotta let life take care of itself..and LIVE IT~~

Confession Day

To my Dear Friend and SockSister Linda,

I do apologize for keeping you in the dark this week..but I wanted to surprise you..
I know we've spoken of taking a sweater class together and there's nothing I'd rather do, but after hearing your stories of all the lovely sweaters you made for your children when they were young and knowing your sweater experience...I could not in good conscience take a class with a Well Seasoned Sweater Maker such as yourself without a bit of experience.

I have to admit..this was not planned..I have witnesses for that..it was purely spur of the moment...I walked into YT on Sat. to visit..and there was another lady there making a sweater...I loved the pattern and was assured it was a very easy 'first sweater'..so that was my secret purchase...and I've been knitting fiercely all week...I now need help with doing the sleeves but I wanted to share with you what has kept me so busy this week. I hope you will forgive me for being unusually 'quiet'...

I will post again once it has sleeves...

Is this Jan or Her "Imposter"

I'm currently not doing anything very exciting either in knitting or everyday life..but there are some people out here that are knitting their hearts out....well, I may be knitting a little but no pictures of importance

For instance, look at this gorgeous sock..it's STR yarn and my Sock Sister knit her..She's a thing of beauty..and the sock isn't so bad either, huh?..Applauds my circular Sock Sister!! She says this is just the most awesome yarn she's used for socks...so, I believed her and I ordered some for 'me'..but it has to wait until other projects are complete.

Jan was seen hanging out with The Yarn Harlot some weeks ago and was missing in action..so I'm not sure if this is really her or...her..'Imposter'..

As I have repeatedly blogged...our LYS has been the Melting Pot of our little town..it's brought so many wonderful people together with the same common interest..but not only fiber...the show of love and concern for each other, as well as the lasting friendships that have been formed and carried over outside LYS.

Double Sock 'On My Baby's Love'

I hope everyone had a safe and Happy Memorial Day!!..It was a good day here..We went to a ceremony held at The D-Day Memorial..and as usual, it was most touching. It got quite hot before it was over and then there was a book signing by one of the few left D-Day Vets..We bought the book but opted out of standing in line to have it personalized...will hopefully see him again soon to have that done

I have been put to shame with all the finished items that my friends have been displaying so I had to get busy and do some knitting. I did complete the mate to the 'Bleu Sock'..it's more of the Encore... and I also did a pair of Baby Booties..in OH MY..plus I'm working on a few other items that may get finished this century. I do have some new yarns but I haven't taken photos of yet...maybe soon.

Sixty Blog Post Ago..

I wonder if I should bother checking to see what post 1 was all about..nope..I'm sure it was on the verge of boring.

I've been working on socks..surprised?..I seem to have gotten bitten by the sock bug or have sock fever..which ever, I am still enjoying.

I also finished a feather and fan scarf..sadly it isn't as long as I'd like, but there was not another skein of that particular yarn to be found. I will just find a really tiny person with half a neck to gift with it...I do still love the colors..it's Noro Secret Garden and it's some # for color..I also finished a pair of Horcrux for my Grandson ..he will be 13 next week and he's a huge HP fan..as well as a Va. Tech fan..so I did the socks in the Tech maroon..then I did a pair also for my Granddaughter..using the Magic 28 and some of the leftover yarn from Betty's square. I have the mate to the blue one on the needles in addition to another 3 pair that need attention...at least I'm down from the 5 pair that were pending the end of last week. The blue is the Encore yarn..and I'm using a 40 cast on.

We're having wonderful weather!! The temps are just perfect..we haven't turned the air on yet...and it's still very bearable..and what a good excuse to not use the oven..'hmmm honey, it will heat the house up so much'..."why don't you cook on the grill?"..heck it works..so why not~

Stopped in at LYS today and had a very nice visit with Jan and Teresa..that Teresa is going to town on those socks...We may have to induct her into the Sock Sister Hall of Fame..I'm so proud of you Teresa..keep up the good knitting!!
I'm very sad to say my Sock Sister has been under the weather..she's got a very ugly case of bronchitis..and feels quite yucky...but she saw the dr. and got some meds..so let's pray she's on the mend!! I've prescribed her lots of rest and double up on her knitting..I think it's working.

Clogs, Squares, Yarn, Horses and Goats

It's been another gorgeous day here in 'Bedrock'...sunny and breezy..and it even got a bit hot later in the day.

I have a hodgepodge of pix to share today..being that I've been negligent in sharing some.

I have CLOGS that Dana gifted me before I went away..and I have not shown them yet..they're absolutely divine and I do appreciate all her hard work beyond words..Thank you Dana..I love them..but I am not sure I'm skilled or brave enough to try them yet. I just realized this is not the pix I meant to use..the other one I had flipped...but they're beautiful anyway you look at them...the color is so rich!!

Linda, Dana and Myself have also been working on the Hokie Pride Project..which is knitting 8x8" squares and this wonderful yarn shop, Mosaics... in Blacksburg is going to make them into blankets for the families of the victims...We are sending a 'bakers dozen'...they have been knit by us with those families in our hearts with each stitch..may this beautiful project help with the healing.

There was another skein of yarn that I purchased yesterday at the LYS open house..it's Encore and it's called Silver Indigo..I am sure the color isn't true here..but it's a very soft color.

When Chicks With Sticks Clique

This is Sharen..a friend of Jan's and Dianne(MOI)..I'm wearing the scarf that Michelle made me...and if you look very closely, you will see I am wearing this awesome shawl pin that my hubby made...he decided a few weeks ago..that he was a 'whittler'..and that he is...Whittle away my dear MOTH!!

Today was Customer Appreciation Day at Yarn Theory. Yarn Theory is my LYS..the place that feeds my habit, the place I've met and made some lasting and incredible friendships..It was the place to be...today!!

There were some incredible bargains on yarn, some awesome door prizes..but...the knitting and spinning of 'yarns' among friends was just The Best.

Nikki came from Roanoke to shop and stayed a while to knit with us.. She left much too soon because she also won a door prize...a very nice knitting bag.

Congrats Nikki...now you have to come back to Bedford!!

And I did score this Koigu today..not sure if it's going into socks or a scarf..but you will see it here..so stay tuned...I also bought another skein of Encore but I will post another time

Although I don't have a huge blog following..I do appreciate all of you that stop by and I know some of you are very faithful and have a larger audience...so I trust that those of you in the latter category and live in close proximity to my area..will pass this along.

On Saturday, May 19th 2007 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m..My LYS( Yarn Theory) will be hosting a Spring Fiber Fling. Jan, the proprietor and her staff(I will be assisting) as will my Sock Sister Linda..

This is an effort to show appreciation to all the loyal yarn enthusiasts in the area and any Fiber Fiend from a distance that would like to come share in the 'knitterly experience.' There will be door prizes, great discounts on selected items throughout the day, and food!! There actually may be a few surprises...

I'm The Cats Meow..and they all know it!

And they think I don't know~..My Mom will be going away for a few days so I will write for her as she is preparing for her trip. I found these this morning..so I know it's soon...and if I knew exactly when, I'd run away ...I've done that before..make them come looking for me..and maybe make them late for their flight..hehe That would fix them..huh?

You see...they do this a few times every year and they think I'm totally unaware of the goings on...they bring those canvas thingies out and start putting their belongings in them..and next thing I know..I find myself in a metal cage going 'to camp'...or so they say..Well..it's more like going to hell...I've heard My Mom on the phone with them when she calls to make reservations..and I know what they say about me..and it's all because I bit one of them once..only once, I swear..well, I did rip her pants too..but she should not have been trying to cuddle me..I'm not a cuddler! They treat me like a common prisoner once there..putting this sign..BEWARE on my cage...DO NOT ENTER..well how the heck am I going to bite anyone if they're too afraid to even open the door...geesh..such whimps they are!! They come at meal time and throw my bowl of friskies in..and that's about it..They do give me the deluxe suite there at this 'camp'..because my Mom asked them to try to make it comfortable for me..well it's NOT..and I DON'T want too go...why can't my Mom and Dad go some place where I can go along instead of getting on that darn airplane and flying off to some stupid destination where they can't even drink the water...and I'm pretty sure they don't speak the language..

PLUS..they're taking that aggravating brother of mine too..thank God..I don't have to share a room with him..or I'd fix him...He's so big and hairy..and he chases me..well... I do growl and curse him..but that's no excuse for him to chase after me...he's huge...he looks like a COW! But when he goes in..they all go goo goo over him...like he's some sort of God..it's ...'oh Nik...you're so sweet!'..'come here you nice boy!'..I'd like to get my claws in that nice boys face...just once!...he'd get over that 'I'm a pretty boy syndrome' really quick.

And this knitting stuff...if that isn't some sort of bull..she has all this yarn..and I know darn well there's plenty that I could have at least one ball of my very own..but it's always...'no Fred...you can't play with that scarf'...well, how do I know it's a scarf..it looks like some strings tied together...just a few minutes in that room she calls her 'stash room'....oh...what fun!

Ooopps..I hear my Mommy coming, I better go have more friskies so I can build up my stamina for the days ahead.

All my bags are NOT packed..and I'm NOT ready to go...

hmm..how do I say this..I lied!! I had such good intentions of packing today but it just hasn't happened YET..and I don't see it happening today.

I had some other 'pressing duties' to take care of..such as 'ironing'...so now that all the things I've ironed are ready to pack so they can wrinkle..maybe I'll pack Thurs..that's closer..then I won't have much more time to backpedal.

I did get the suitcase out and I mentally know which clothes I am putting in there..so a part of the battle is over..see I feel I have to justify my procrastination because Linda will be expecting me to say..I'm all packed..and she knows how I feel about that procrastination...etc...'wink'

The weather was so nice today that I also felt I should try to introduce my lily whites to the sunshine before getting the whammo sun I get once there...so with that being said..I'm almost ready to pack, have a little glow from the sun, clothes are pressed..and my final trip for batteries etc to Walmart has been taken care of.

My last post I shared with you the gorgeous scarf that was gifted me..and it inspired me to make one for one of my friends we will be meeting next week..I could not duplicate as much as I would like too..because my LYS doesn't carry Noro..so I chose Koigu..and it did lovely..and the colors are much nicer for my friend Patti..I will show you:>>>>

I haven't photographed yet, but I was also the lucky recipient of a pair of Dana's Clogs...wow..too die for..I love them!! Thank you! Thank You!!

And just to fill some space because I don't know when I will blog again..but for those of you that I email regularly, you will hear from me, provided I can get access to one of the house computers.

This is a dress I bought to take with me..I've decided it looks better on the rack than on me..so I will be carrying it to dinner...lol

I also found some incredible bargains on linen pants..yep..ironed them..can't change the stripes on this old tiger...gotta have them pressed!

Gifted Scarf

A few weekends ago, I had the pleasure of meeting a knit blogger that I had chatted with for several years through another chat client, but we had never personally met.

During our chatship I have started to knit and we had many hours of knit chat and she finally decided to join the knit crew..She has only been knitting a few months but she is so very talented.

When I found that there was going to be a Fiber Festival in my town, I mentioned it to her..and she said she would like to come..so I invited her to come stay with me and join me for the festival..I'm sure she was a bit nervous thinking what kind of idiot invites strangers to their home to spend the night...but I truly did not consider her a stranger after our many hours of chatting.

She accepted my invitation and she came for the festival a few weeks ago..It was a very enjoyable weekend...I think we had a very good visit and she is most welcome to come visit anytime she would like.

Of course..My husband and I are both old enough to be her parents..but we're 'cool' old people!!

When Michelle arrived..she gifted Nik..with a large bag of peanut butter goodies..so of course he has been lying around in a depressed state since her departure..but amazing how he cheers up when I give him a cookie..as if he needed to be spoiled more..actually, she had sent him a box of peanut butter treats at Christmas...and they were his very favorite ever..as well as his Bungee she sent him..so now he knows who the 'Peanut Butter Lady' is...and for me..she gifted me this gorgeous scarf..it's a Fan and Feather design and the colors are just absolutely awesome!! I was so pleased it was cool enough to wear it to the Festival and I've worn it since and gathered quite a few nice compliments..thank you CornyMichelle! It's made with Noro Secret Garden Lite..Isn't it beautiful?

I'm actually making one for a friend to take on vacation but I was not able to find this lovely yarn, so I had to settle for some Koigu..it's knitting up nicely..but not as 'rich' as mine..

I've done a bit of shopping this week..and have purchased NO yarn..what's the deal?...I went shopping with a friend earlier in the week..and Macy's was having an incredible sale..so I bought a few new things that would be appropriate for the Maya Riviera..then today..I took my Mom and we went to the Macy's on the other side of where I live..and found more awesome deals..now would someone come pack for me?..argh...I have officially declared Tues. as packing day. I have to make sure I have my quart size ziplock bags...geesh..and prepare myself to be at the mercy of the airport security and jump through their hoops..

I may need tequila before I get there..hmm

Let The Healing Begin

I want to thank everyone that has sent their thoughts and prayers to this area since the tragedy at Va. Tech..We were not alone in this suffering, it had a huge impact on the entire world.

I can't begin to imagine losing a loved one so tragically...it's difficult losing someone after a short or lengthy illness, but to be taken so quickly with no warning always leaves so many unanswered questions.

I know the grieving will continue as it should...no one should be forgotten but I do think as a nation we have to let the healing start.

I know there are many organizations that are doing memorials. We have a blogger that is reaching out in hopes of making a fiber item for each of the victims families..I think that is just most heart warming and I am currently working on a project to send along to that.

I have finished the Gossamer Shawl that I started a month or so back...I was so fired up when I first started and then realized...I could slow down, which I did...and then I panicked that I wasn't going to have it complete in time...but she's done.

It was really a bit difficult to photograph due to the size but I will try to take a pix of it when it's gifted and worn by the recipient. I used a natural linen and a variegated mohair..

I also have some socks going on as well as another scarf using the fan and feather pattern.

OHHH I forgot..

The Fiber Festival was wonderful..even though it was raining upon our arrival..it stopped as soon as we got out and about.

My friend Michelle from NC came up and my Sock Sister Linda ..both went with me...we had a great time shopping, although I only bought a few skeins...I also bought a book for Hubby and some more Bryspun needles..BUT..the great part was I met other bloggers..

When we arrived and parked...I realized we were parked right beside Robin(Knittin Coop) and her husband...what a lovely couple!! It was so nice to finally meet her after following her blog for a while and emailing...hope we will see each other on many more occasions.

Then..we met Nikki...also sort of a local blogger..what a neat gal also..and she did an awesome job on Spinning..I can see a wheel in her near future.

We left Sedalia and headed back to town..having lunch at our favorite little hole in the wall pizza joint....Court Street Pizza..and is it ever good!!! It's become my favorite little eatery!!

We left there and went to Yarn Theory, our local yarn shop...and browsed a bit...wanting to share with Michelle where we get our fiber fixes..then the day was still young, so we drove a bit further south to Tapestry..another yarn shop...and there we met some other ladies that had been at Sedalia also. We browsed at Tapestry...and didn't leave empty handed..

We drove back to town and went to The D Day Memorial....I always like to take my out of towners there.. http://www.dday.org/......

By this time we were all a bit tired and headed home for some knitting..

A great day with friends is always better than any prescription the Dr. will give you...

Or this SWEET DOG...who says ' my bowl is empty MOM'...but it's empty because he's licked it dry...now does he look malnourished?..

Actually, this is his sad face because he misses Michelle...he fell in love with her and her peanut butter treats...what a pushover!!

And Behind Door Number 2

And behind door number 2...is sock number 2...needles are for 'mood'..

I suppose every sock has a story..this one being a bit larger than norm..and larger than my HUGE foot ...but because I was sock stupid when I began it...I selected the yarn and was directed that I'd need a size 2 needle..which was great, that would increase my needle stash...but because it was only the 2nd pair socks I'd ever attempted...I didn't think that I should decrease the cast on stitches~~so I cast on 72..I'd never planned on this being a sock of my personal sock stash..although I love it.. it and a match will be going to a dear friend for her birthday mid Feb....so after I am able to 'kitchener' her together ..I need to get busy on her mate.

For those that have followed the SWTC story..today I received a lovely skein of yarn in the mail from those folks...can't wait to do some yummy socks with it..but that's on the back burner until I finish the 3 on the needles at this time.

BRRR..seems winter finally has found us here in little old rural BedRock..it was only 21 today at 10 a.m...when I was racing out to the gym..I think it finally made it to 30. The forecast is for some type precip on Thurs...can we all say SNOW...yes..louder..in unison..SNOWWWWWWWWWW...how I hope~~ call me weird~~

Ready for Class 4

Sooo...it seems like it's taken forever to reach this point ..and at this rate...go to the back of the line and take a number as you wait for your pair of socks..lol

I've done all the necessary knitting and am ready for the dreaded 'kitchener' stitch..I suppose ignorance is bliss because I have no clue why I dread it, since I've never done it..but it has the word 'kitchen' in it..maybe that's why it causes such a panic in people..I will find out on Tues.

Mean while I will try to get sock 1 of pair 2...to this point..and sock 1 of pair 3..is still out there in limbo..waiting for a name.

It's been most interesting to try to work on 3 different yarns for the socks..and all are at different degrees of doneness...I think my favorite knit so far is 'Claudias'..I really loved the Austermanns Step..until it started doing whacky stuff...and I say beware of it!! This particular skein has caused me much duress as well as MOTH..you should see him as he wears the yarn around his neck in an effort to help me get the knots out of it...YES...it comes out in copious bunches of loopy knots..I've threatened to cut it off..cut my losses..and tie it together...but MOTH..being a bit more patient than Moi...gently finds the source of my discontent and gets me back on track.

I suppose socks have not been a smooth learning experience for me..I've bought yucko needles that were like splinters, I've gotten reject yarn..but I've had a great instructor and knit partner...and with our team effort..I've created a 'SOCK'..I hope it will have a partner in the near future..

Many thanks to all my strong sock supporters..you've given me the inspiration to look for ...light at the end of the tunnel..'THE TOE'

1,2,3.....Sock(s)

After checking my inventory of sock yarn and other yarns, I believe I have enough to get through a few days of nasty weather..but nothing as foul as some of you have been having. We're forecasted for snow tomorrow..but so far their 'batting average' isn't so good. It seems to be that every time they say we are certain to have snow ..it either just doesn't happen or we get freezing rain..it's not printable how I feel about freezing rain..it ranks up there with toothaches, ear aches and meddling mother in laws...none of which I have experience with.

I have made 'good time' on Sock 1 ..lesson 3 is this week ..I can hardly wait to have 1 complete sock..I may just wear Sock 1 with Sock 2..until I can complete a pair....

But..just to keep the sock energy going, I've started a 3rd sock..and I'm about ready to toss in the 'sock towel, needles and the entire kitten kaboodle'..it's been a nightmare..I love the yarn that I chose, it's a South West Trading Co. Tofutsies and it's 50% Superwash wool, 25% Soysilk Fibers, 22.5% Cotton and 2.5% Chitin..Chitin being a fiber from shrimp and crab shells..can't wait to have fishy feet!! For starters, when you pay $18+ for a skein of yarn to make 1 pair of socks..it should be perfect, flawless...and within the first 2 rows of my ribbing..there comes a huge knot..a very poorly tie on..BUT I was already having mucho problemas before this..because I'd purchased another set of dpns..for this project..and it was the last pair that LYS had..and how I wish she still had them..Have you ever tried knitting with a large splinter?..well, this is what I've encountered...I know they're defective and I kept thinking I could sand it down..I whittled..too no avail..still snagging the yarn..so then a dear knit sister suggested I try a light coat of clear nail polish..so I did this..again, it's no better..and I keep struggling trying to 'save the sock'...I know you 'true sockers' would have ripped this sucker out by now and started over...but I sllllllllowwwlyyyyyyyyyy insert the needle hoping not to snag more just to have a knit fix..and this is...that Sock 3..the one that has driven me to drink, curse and nearly swear off socks.

My Sock Sister

I've devoted most of this space to 'ME'...but tonight I want to dedicate this to my Sock Sister LW..

We started this 'sock journey' together last week ...I had great apprehensions about my ability to do socks..but she encouraged me and assured me..WE could do it. I knew going into that she was quite an accomplished knitter...far greater skills than the amateur here..but she not once has used her advanced skills to make me look inadequate...she has held my hand gently and sent me kind emails ..almost like a 'guardian sock angel'...

We both agreed that it took the longest to knit that first 6"...however I suspect she had finished her's by the first afternoon...but it kept me going..

Today we met for our 2nd class...both with our 6" intact...and we proceeded to knit the heel flap...which went really well...and I'm happy to say that she is equally as hooked as I am now...because she bought more sock yarn..and started her 2nd pair...

Our instructor has been fabulous...her instructions are simple enough that even I can understand, as well as she's very complimentary of our work...I think we may be her best students...**wink**

I did not know LW prior to knitting but I had seen her on several occasions at LYS..and just felt a bond...now I feel like I've known her forever and look forward to many hours of knitting and chatting...

She is such a warm, caring person...one that greets you with a 'real' hug and leaves you with a equally 'real' farewell hug...

Oh..and did I mention, she's a fabulous knitter...and just to prove it...this is her 'first sock'...

Austermann Sock

Just a quick entry and pix of the beginning of another sock...hmm...wonder if I will ever have a match to either...I've had a sock fetish since I was a teen...always loved socks..the brighter, bolder and weird...the better...needless to say..I've got some yarn shopping to do too achieve this...these are a bit subtle for this 'old' gal!!

I love the way this knits up..it's quite an easy knit and I like the pattern...provided they're finished by mid Feb., they will be a gift for a special friend for her birthday...

I hope all of you guys that are being snowed on, iced on...without electricity etc...are keeping safe...and at least have some 'good knit' going on.

It was 73 degrees here yesterday and near 70 again today...I think a cool down is coming tomorrow but...snow doesn't look promising.

Yes, Size does matter...when making socks!!

Ok folks..bear with me here a moment...I've never ever been one to involve myself with conversations of size importance..BUT..after it taking me 5 days to achieve 6"...it has become quite an issue with me:...SOCKS I mean...I thought I could just whip that 6" out and be done in a day...boy was I wrong!! Then I became rational and said...I'll do an inch per day..that too became a challenge...so then I thought...let this be fun, do what you feel like...so today I finished the necessary 6"...for the first class...not too mention I went to LYS..and bought 2 more skeins of sock yarn...for future socks...I feel the addiction.

I want to try to start another one tomorrow on my own...not sure how far past cast on I will get..but that will be an accomplishment.

Marianne, Thanks for your wisdom and confidence..it really is fun...just 'not making good time'..YET..

We're fortunately not getting any of the blizzards or storms some of you folks are getting..instead we had 60 degree temps...which is very unusual for us here in Va..at the foot of The Blue Ridge Mountains. We've hardly had cold weather...there is some 'iffy' stuff for about mid week but it will probably be rain.

It's been a few days since I posted..and I don't have anything earth shattering at this time, but a few pix I will share of some gifted yarn...and what I'm doing with it.
First, for those that have followed me..you know how I've feared the 'S' word..Socks..but today I had my first class and I can honestly say...it wasn't TOO bad!! Although I've not made monumental progress..it's beginning to show a bit of shape. I was accustomed to making items with larger stitches...and making better time...but after a 2 hour class and probably at least that much additional time at home...I'm at 1.5"..Any idea how long it will take to reach 6"...???..who's counting, right?

I also have started a scarf using The Jo Sharp Kid Mohair...and I'm doing a Cat's Paw pattern..again, I'm not making huge progress because I have quite a few items on the needles and trying to be fair to all of them..Plus, these are all ME items...because it was gifted yarn..and NO ONE gives away gifted yarn...right? I'm 2 paws into...12...no rush..but know it will be fun when finished.

And last but not least...the beautiful Debbie Bliss...and I'm knitting a Ribbed Scarf...it feels so fantastic against the skin...I think my yarn taste have taken a swift change in the last few knits.

I had lots of friends that wanted the 'frou frou' yarns and I was drawn to them to make gifts for them...but I'm really enjoying the feel of this Bliss...perfectly named...it's blissful

I must say a huge THANK YOU to the person that was so generous in giving me the Bliss and Jo yarns...a very special lady she is...and she has now entered into the world of knit...after hearing me 'yarn' for the past year...she decided she couldn't 'beat it..so she joined us'...She's doing a lovely job on her first scarf...if you get the opportunity ..drop by her blog and give her your support...http://www.cornyknits.blogspot.com..

Happy New Year!!

I hope each of you have a healthy, happy and prosperous year..and what's all the talk of 'yarn diets'...no way~~NOT happening here.

A little sock yarn that my Sis gave me for Christmas..and the sock class begins next Tues..well, that should be a hoot...but I'm game..I also bought..see, no diet here...this other skein ..it's WOOL..so it's going to be a bowl at some point...thanks to Dana for the wonderful bowl pattern...now I just need her youthful mind to help me figure some of the language.. and I need to buy special yarn if I'm going to knit the 'exact' pattern.

I have quite a few loose ends on the needles and nothing is screaming to me to hurry up...I need motivation!! Maybe I'm just still in the holiday mode..after all, I do still have my tree up..and I don't see it coming down in the next few days unless there's a service that comes around and 'undecorates'...too busy for it at the moment.

We had friends down for New Years Eve and I made chili and cornbread..and a too die for chocolate cheese cake...and I had found this great sounding recipe for black eyed peas, collards, kielbasa with a cornbread topping...that I was going to fix for New Years Day..but I was called to be with a friend. her Father was dying..so I spent most of the day and afternoon with her..and he did pass away that afternoon...but when I got home, I was too tired...too sad and too stressed to cook...so we had leftover chili...thank goodness for leftovers...But..I did fix the casserole yesterday and I would highly recommend...quite tasty and I will do again. I enjoyed having all those 'lucky new year items' in one dish.

Happy Winter Solstice

On the First Day of Winter, my special friend sent to me..."4 skeins of yarn"...this lovely Jo Sharp Kid Mohair...and this lovely Jo Sharp Kid Mohair...and Two skeins of this beautiful Debbie Bliss SoHo....it feels so 'marvy'...and I can't wait to find something special to knit up with it.

Perhaps she knew I needed WOOL to FELT...and is making sure that I don't make the same mistake twice..giggles..for Dana~~

I'm sure the week is hectic for everyone..It is here..but it will soon be behind us and we will have plenty of knitting time...no more baking until next holiday...the waistline sighs!!

Twas The "Knit-wit" Before Christmas

It must be the pre holiday blahs but I have nothing of significance to post a pix of...or maybe it's because..being the 'knitwit' that I am...I screwed up what may have been a lovely photo..lol
Geesh...I already had my title planned for this entry to be 'Bowled Over'...I spent most of Friday knitting away on a nice, easy bowl pattern that I was going to 'felt'..my first 'felt'...WELL..duh me..I completed the knitting process..and it was truly one of my best 'hats'..so I was so excited to do the felting...I raced downstairs early Sat...and loaded the washer,with knitted hat and even found some jeans I didn't care if they shrunk or not..and headed back upstairs to bake..mistake #1..but as it turns out, that really didn't bother this process. I ran up and down the stairs repeatedly resetting the washer so that it would not spin..BUT lo and behold as I was putting 2 cakes in the oven I heard the dreaded spin cycle and literally jumped down the stairs to rescue my 'felt'..WELL..even the novice I am..could tell I still had a 'hat'..with most obvious stitches showing...hmm..grrrr...At this point I decided to stop the process and took the 'knitted piece' outside on the porch..(a spring like day) and left to dry lying on the picnic table..still not figuring out where I screwed up..
After I baked another 2 cakes I decided I needed a trip to LYS..and casually mentioned I had attempted to felt ..and she asked what I had used..so happens she still had a skein of on the shelf..and she looks at me as she looks at the yarn..and says..you need WOOL!!...ok..I won't type what I said..but it was 4 -lettered!! Why did I not remember this?...well, as I went back to the pattern I was using..it read...you really don't need 100% wool...but I guess it did not mean 25% either lol..yes, I am able to laugh at my stupidity..because I learned from it..and the 'bowl'..is a lovely Jackie O pillbox hat at the moment..haha!! So..I'm not bowled over..my knitwit attempt at felting ~~but you can take this to the bank..when I felt next time...it will be WOOL..I was so in hopes of having this 'gorgeoumous' bowl to brag about over the holiday..AND..it will happen, just later!!
I think I finished all the mandantory knitting for the holidays and am now working on some 'comfort knitting'..some dishcloths and a 'snood'..nothing that has to be complete and if so..it will find a home.
Last Sunday BlueRidgeKnittery hosted the 2nd Stitch and Bitch at her home..there were 4 of us and it was such a nice time...and honest..we didn't do much of the latter..but such a fun visit with some lovely ladies...a lovely hostess that shared her knitted stash as well as some of her 'tried and trusted' patterns...and sent us home with YARN..now how much better does it get?
One of the ladies will be joining me in the sock class in 2007..I'm so excited.
MOTH(Man Of The House) has asked what I would like for Christmas..I said 'socks'..however I don't think he is yet thinking in the 'knit way of socks' so I'm sure I will get SOCKS from Macy's..instead of yarn to make my own..he will learn I am sure..he usually catches on quickly but I think he's intimiated by the actual selecting of yarn..so maybe there will be a 'shopping spree' at LYS..or another place that has all those items I yearn for~~

Welcome December!!

Another Christmas present complete..
although I've not yet done much mall shopping or online ordering..I've kept the needles fairly busy..this is made from SWTC Phoenix Soy Silk/Candy...well how appropriate is that??? Being the chocolate lover that I am...this sucked me right in!! It was a really fun knit..went quickly and turned out quite beautifully...it's all laundered and ready to wrap/bag.

I also completed this 'gal'...she's made with SWTC Bamboo/Intensity...she looks and feels absolutely fantastic...
soft but rich!! Another Christmas pressie...and both have a bit of yarn left over..the mind is actively churning with possibilities for the remaining 'stash'...

I have an awesome scarf..very male going as well as a stocking cap...another scarf and a new dishcloth...OH...and another Moebius...and 2 more skeins ready to be cast on...Where will it end...I can only hope...it ends with the bind off...Happy Knitting to all!!~~~

What do you get when you cross a Desperate Housewife with leftover yarn?...Well, in this case...you're getting a "Purplexed Black Parrot" Moebius!!
I had the urge to start a new one..and I ran by the 'Smallmart' before it opened on Tues...so when faced with no other options..it was either do more on some scarves, hats or dishcloths...and I woke from a nap with brain flatulence...and remembered I had a large amount of 3 yarns that needed to be used...I had just finished a moebius with the Bamboo Purplexed..with lots of yardage left, I had also a few weeks ago finished a triangular scarf with the Bamboo Parrot...also with quite a bit left...then I remembered I had at least that much of the Oasis Black left from a previous moebius...so bingo...a moebius was born..and her name is...The Purplexed Black Parrot...she's quite lovely and my husband has raved the entire knit...now that could be his frugality talking..and he isn't very complimentary, but this one really caught his eye...One thing for sure...she is the original and I think I will put her in my wardrobe...I don't know how many others would appreciate her as I do...plus she will match most anything I want to wear with her...including the pj's I have on at this moment with her draped around my neck...lol...notice, she's female!!...
I don't currently have anything going other than some busy work, but I have a trip to Yarn Theory penciled in for tomorrow...please be there!!...I NEED yarn!!

Ok..this is really the last 2..of the last 3 I've done...the very last one, I completed today...(not shown here)
I actually made one identical to my first one. I was at a party last week and a lady fell in love with the Napa Valley one that I made earlier...and asked if I had ever sold any...well..I was a bit flattered but I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to buy this stuff...lol...but we chatted on and by Tuesday..we had made a 'barter deal(she's a massage therapist..so I think I'm the winner in this deal)...and I bought more yarn...and the knitting went amazingly fast...all I have left to do is bind the ends...and it's ready to go...whew...but mean while, I left 3 Christmas projects on the back burner...My sister also has commissioned me to make a triangular scarf for her...to give a friend for Christmas...I'm using the Imposter for that and it's looking really 'saucy'..but I've got alot of work left to do on it.
Dana, I look forward to seeing your 'Soaring Santa Stocking'...and your Andie..is doing some really fantastic knitting...the agility of those youthful fingers...

Hocus Pocus..Moebius~~I know it looked as if I had dropped off the face of the 'knitters earth'..but I came a few times to blog..and it wasn't cooperative..Frustrated I took my needles and ran..and failed to return for a while..but I will try to be a better 'blogster'...
Although I didn't post here..I still kept the needles 'clicking'...
This is a Moebius that I made when taking a class with Jan, this pattern is called The Lacy Shoulder Wrap and I used The South West Trading Company Oasis..it is black, although it appears grey.
It's quite lovely..feels very 'rich' against the skin.
I'm currently working on a few scarves, hats etc..and want to learn socks, but afraid I may have to wait until after the holidays..I have a lot going on and have committed myself to some other places that may not give me the time I need...but will miss the camaraderie of our Thurs. class..

Yeah, it's Friday!!...oh wait, I'm retired and it's Friday every day!!
The pix today is a childs hat made from Big Mexiko/Sundown...really cute for a child. It's another Christmas gift for the 'treasure chest'... I bought MORE yarn today for other projects...and I have other items in progress...nothing real exciting at the moment...just a scarf or 6 and another hat.
I wasn't able to attend the new classes last night because of other committments and I knew I was going to be away next week, so I hope to get back on schedule in a few weeks. I'm quite interested in trying to do some socks..I've had a sock fetish for all my adult life and it looks like some of the patterns I've seen could help with that addiction~~the wilder the sock, the better I like them! I was a 'wild sock child' before wild socks were the rage!! Happy Knitting and have a safe weekend!!

It's done!! Yeah!!...and now if I had a 'skinny' model, it would be wonderful..but a gals gotta do what a gal has gotta do...I'll try for a better pix later...

It's Mobeius II and it's made from South West Trading Company Oasis, Soy Silk..White..it was a fun and easy yarn to knit but I highly recommend if you use...to secure the yarn with a rubber band, it tends to creep...and knot...I spent at least the last 5 hours..a fourth through binding off...untangling the yarn...very frustrating....but the end result was worth the struggle!!

I decided to 'fringe' this one...I really like it...I may go back and fringe #1...or at least do a few and see how I like. ...I'm ready for #3...can't decide on a color...because I'm going to do the class and have already decided on the color I'll use for that one...hmm...maybe something a bit brighter...

I know you were expecting to see a finished Moebius..but I got to round 15...and had a small glitch...SO I had this triangular scarf on the back burner for weeks...needing my attention,...it's not a total waste of good 'knit time'..
I made this with Ariel and Karabella Lace Mohair...afraid the picture doesn't do justice, but...you can see the nice shaping...it's like Christmas shopping in July...another one done!!~It isnt a fast knit for me using the 2 ...but then, I'm a bit slow anyway..lol
I've started another using another Ariel and Karabella..only different colors.

I plan to wear this hat every day this winter..I totally adore it!!..so if you see the hat first..I will be easy to recognize..lol..it's made from the same yarn as yesterday..but obviously a different color.

The doll..is my last doll I received as a child from Santa..so it's a bit 'aged' as well as the owner..lol

I'm getting along really well on Moebius II...I'm over a third done and it's a really fun and speedy knit...or until I run into trouble~I hope to have it complete by mid-week at which time I will post a pix...until then, hang on to your seats and listen for 'swear words'...lol

TGIF...This is a photo of one of my treasured old dolls(Sealer), which was made by my husbands grandmother many years ago..and she is sporting one of my favorite hats..using..Plymouth Yarn-Encore Mega..it's one of the most fun projects I've done and as you read my blogs...you will see, one I've done a few times..I love hats and this one is such fun and easy to knit.
I did go back to work on the 'Marvy Moebius' last night..and argh..found I'm 4 stitches less than I need..oh well...Jan I'm sure had huge amounts of money bet that I'd be by today...the day isn't over, but I may wait and work on some other projects that I've abandoned while doing the 'fobymoby' thing.
I think I've been inspired by Dana to try some slippers...maybe even 'felting'...OH MY!!...bet that would feel good on 'ones footsies'....

Happy Thursday Fellow Bloggers,
We had our last class tonight for this segment of advanced beginners..or that's my title for us...I started another Moebius..using South West Trading Company Oasis, Soy Silk-White..it's really not quite white, but I'm not one to argue with 'the maker'..Jan did the 'killer cast on' for me to get started and I lost my sense of direction and realized midway through the second round that I was still knitting instead of purling..oh the joys of "tinking'".I was perfectly happy to make alterations to the pattern and go on but Jan said we needed to take it out..and she did so...otherwise, I'd not be blogging tonight, I'd still be "tinking"..Thank you Jan!
I've laid it to rest for the evening and have promised to not be so frantic over this one as I was the last...oh yeah..heard that one, huh?
The pictured hat was a second one I made from the pattern we used for my beginner hat. A friend in Montreal sent me the yarn and in exchange I made her a hat and scarf from another pattern...I love the colors of this one...very ME!! I will surely be the 'best hatted and scarved' of the neighborhood this fall when I walk the pup..
Maybe I will go down and...finish that 'purl' row...one round can't hurt..lol

This photo may show the finished product a bit better and it surely matches better than the 'plaid' pants I had on yesterday, that I cropped..lol I wore the Moebius today out to lunch as well as to the Quilt Show at the Library...actually got a few compliments and one lady..knew what it was...I was impressed. 'Sew(So) I'm ready to select another yarn and start another project...any ideas?..I'm thinking I'll make another of these for a Christmas gift. I found today how wonderful they feel when there's a little 'chill' while dining....

WOW!! I am so pleased with the finished product! I started it 3 weeks ago last night and I've worked to some degree daily...of course unless it was a weekend and I had made a huge 'booboo' and needed Jan's expertise to direct me out of the rut...which happened once or 8 times..lol
It's called a Moebius and I used South West Trading Company's Phoenix 100% Soy Silk...and the color is Napa Valley.
I whined and moaned quite a bit during the knitting process, but all in all..I can't truly say it was overly difficult..but tedious at times...So of course, I now can't wait to start a second one...haha My husband says I have to keep this one..as I'm quite guilty of giving away most of what I've knitted...I think he's right...*this time...It really is very stunning!!
I'm also currently working on a triangular scarf for a gift...I need to focus on that again now that I've met this last challenge.

This is my very first completed item..and boy did I think I had accomplished some huge feat...I was so excited..that when I left the yarn shop..I came home and knitted all afternoon into the 'wee' hours of the morning until it was time to 'bind off'...oh my gosh...that was so foreign..and I was clueless, so I was back at the shop the next day..for MORE help..and I've been a regular nuisance there since...lol I suppose you could say I am some-what addicted even with the little skill I have..I have aspirations of becoming a more skilled knitter. I am still totally amazed at the variety of fibers and the garments that are knitted...I wish I had discovered this years ago..but it's a great hobby to grow 'older' with...and it gives my husband the perfect excuse to take a nap in the afternoon...because I need quiet to concentrate..haha!!

This is my most difficult piece thus far..but it's been fun and quite a learning experience. I've required much help from my instructor and she's given it so graciously.

In the past I've only done scarves, both triangular and rectangular, and hats...so this was a huge undertaking.

I'm a fairly new knitter, only began this year(2006) but I am extremely enjoying it.

My goal is that I'd like to complete a sweater by Christmas..however, I've never said which Christmas...lol, so I leave myself quite an opening on that.

I was working on another project this morning as I was waiting at the Drs. office for allergy shots and a lady approached me..and said...'OH I KNOW YOU..and I'm like..yes, of course you do..I come here weekly for my allergy shots..and she said..NO...I mean..I know you..you teach knitting, don't you..well, after I got out of the floor from laughing..I thanked her but told her..hardly...that I was still taking beginner classes...but it sparked an interest, because she is a semi beginner and wants to become 'more seasoned' so I directed her to Yarn Theory..
